Access to McClure Hall on the north side of the building will be closed.

UPDATE 10/16/25:
The end date for the north building has been extended to Friday, October 31st, and post construction will include landscape repair.

  • Construction fencing and scaffolding have been removed.
  • Quiet construction work is to be expected for the duration of the effort with work in apartment interiors.
  • Landscape repair will start on October 20th and continue to completion up to October 31st.  Garden beds surrounding both north and south buildings will get refreshed.
  • Additional tree stump grinding has been scheduled for Monday, October 20th.

  • Pedestrian access at the sidewalk to the North of the North Holman Apt building shall remain will be closed for continuation of work on the North building.
  • Accessible entry to East Hall – please use building entrance at NE 30th Ave up through 9/16. Main entry to East Hall – shall remain open.
  • There will be construction related noise for the duration of the effort.

  • The artist will have two vertical lifts in use for the duration.  A beeping noise is to be expected when the lifts are backing up.
  • As the muralist is painting, there may be an odor from the paint.

In addition to the electrical shutdowns, the domestic water will be offline on Tuesday, March 25th, from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm.  This will impact the restrooms, sinks, and drinking fountains.

 

1st Electrical Outage:       Monday, March 24, 2025, at 6:00 am to 9:00 am

Water Shutdown:              Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 6:00 am to 3:00 pm

2nd Electrical Outage:      Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 6:00 am to 10:00 am

3rd Electrical Outage:      Friday, March 28, 2025, at 6:00 am to 9:00 am

Scope:  Planned power outages are scheduled over spring break. The contractors will be installing new HVAC systems throughout various areas of the building.

Services Impacted:

  • This will affect electrical including lights, elevators/lifts, heating, and HVAC air supply.
  • There will be contractors in the hallways especially in the West side of the building particularly Levels 2 & 3 which may prevent movement through the hallways.
  • Expect temperatures to be inconsistent due to the power shutdowns.
  • Power and Internet will not be available during these times.

Special Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. 12/16/24 Erb Memorial Union NW Exterior and University Street Forklift Work Advisory

The purpose of this email is to inform building occupants of the Erb Memorial Union, and nearby buildings, of the work being done at 7:30 am on Monday 12/16/24, outside of the EMU Fishbowl and Ballroom.

A trailer will be offloading material on University Street, with parking spaces on University Street within the work perimeter unavailable during the duration of the work – see diagram below.

A reach forklift will be hauling material.  A perimeter will be set up to control pedestrian traffic throughout the area. The forklift will be traveling on University Street northbound and onto the NW fishbowl sidewalk to access the offload area when hauling material with a flagger in front.

This may interrupt traffic briefly.  Please follow the directions given by the flaggers if driving in the area.

  • The photo on the left shows the work perimeter that will be taped off, restricting access to pedestrians and building occupants.  Please use the paths indicated by the green arrows to enter/exit the building.
  • The photo on the right shows the doors that will be temporarily restricted (red boxes). The west door entering from University Street will be fully available to use (green box).  In the event of an emergency, all building exits are available to use, including the exits depicted in the photo below.

  • During that time, parking on 13th Ave. at Huestis Hall will be offline and pedestrians are encouraged to use the south sidewalk.
  • Egress/entry to Huestis Hall will be routed east and west to avoid the south plaza area where the installation lifts and crane will be staged.
  • On July 10-11, vehicle through access on 13th Ave. will be limited to one lane of traffic between Carson Hall and Erb Memorial Union.
  • Contractor will provide flaggers.

Special Instructions:  Given the limited access on 13th, deliveries and other through way vehicular activities are requested to limit deliveries or temporarily reroute to 18th Ave and University Street.

Building(s) or Area(s) Impacted:  Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

Scope:  A large-scale sculpture will be installed in the JSMA’s North Courtyard during the third week of January.

Services Impacted:

  • This will impact the JSMA’s parking lot (including one ADA parking spot), loading dock, security entrance, bike cage, trash collection, north courtyard, north sidewalk.
  • Crane staging and art uncrating will be located in the JSMA’s parking lot.
  • There will be limited access to the west end of Johnson Lane.

12/20/22 – 12/21/22 1715 Franklin Gutter Work and Noise Advisory

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  1715 Franklin

Scope:  The landlord will be having McKenzie Roofing and Gutter on-site to clean gutters, replace a section of gutters, and to install gutter guards. The contractor will be using a lift on the west side near the motel to access the roof.

Services Impacted:  There may be noise outside of the building and on the roof as work is being completed.
