Scope:  As part of the Huestis Renovation project, there will be a series of electrical shutdowns necessary to make the final connections for the project.  These shutdowns will impact Huestis Hall and neighboring science buildings.  The first series of shutdowns will occur on November 3 and November 6.  Affected services and durations are listed by date and building below.

Friday, November 3, 5:00 am – 9:00 am – Electrical to Huestis Hall, Lokey Labs.  RO supply to Klamath Hall, Streisinger Hall, Willamette Hall

Huestis Hall: Electrical shutdown will affect all equipment on normal power during the transfer of normal loads to generator back up.  All services provided by steam, chilled water, HVAC supply and exhaust will be affected during the transitions from normal to backup and again.  Huestis RO faucets will be offline.

Network servers will be supported by local UPS units and battery panels.

Lokey Labs: Electrical shutdown will affect all equipment and systems running on normal power in rooms 76, 87 and 96.  Occupants are advised to power down all equipment in rooms 76, 87 and 96.  Chilled water will be offline.  Standby will also be offline and unavailable for this duration.

Klamath Hall, Streisinger Hall, and Willamette Hall: RO water supply will not be available as booster pump 1 will be offline in Huestis Hall during this outage.

Monday, November 6, 6:00 am – 10:00 pm – Huestis Hall, Lokey Labs, and Streisinger Hall – Standby Power outage

The standby power source will be offline for the duration of this shutdown. Users are not expected to experience any impacts during this outage but should be aware that the redundant power source is not available.

Copier Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. UPDATE:
The audible fire alarm testing will occur sporadically during this event. This will last for 1-2 hours per floor level 1, 2, 3, and penthouse inside Huestis Hall only.

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Hall renovation project, the fire suppression system will be offline each day from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm to allow for final fire line connections to the Huestis Hall basement and Lokey Labs.  Contractors will be working in the Huestis Hall basement mechanical room and main hallway. Contractors will provide fire watch throughout Lokey Labs and the Huestis Hall basement during this shutdown.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

The initial ceiling repair took place yesterday by one of our night crew technicians. The remainder of the work will be done with the night crew and not impact occupants.  We will make sure that the restroom is fully accessible today for use including the sinks that were blocked off.

Users will experience limited to no availability of compressed air which is likely to affect air turrets at lab benches and possibly affect building heating and cooling supply. Users should plan to limit their use of the emergency supplied compressed air during this period.
  • Huestis Hall – No impact to compressed air service anticipated during this test period.
  • Lokey Labs – No impact to compressed air service anticipated during this test period.

Monday, October 30, 2023, 7:00 am – 1:00 pm: Outage in Huestis, Lokey Labs, Willamette and Streisinger.

  • At Streisinger and Willamette Halls, following the test results of the emergency backup air supply, users will experience a lower flow of available compressed air via lab turrets. Users should plan to limit use during this period. Heating and cooling supply may be affected during this period.
  • Lokey Labs will be supplied by a temporary air compressor. Users should plan to limit use during this period.
  • Huestis Hall will not have compressed air during the shutdown. Please shut down affected equipment.

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Renovation project, temporary steam source will be refed from the new permanent steam source.  This shutdown will remove the existing steam flow meter and tie into the new PRV station for the permanent steam supply.

Services Impacted:  This steam supply shutdown will take the following equipment offline in Huestis serving the Zebrafish facility and quarantine:

  • Exhaust Fans 1&2
  • AHU 1&2
  • Heat Exchange 1
  • Heating Water pump 1&2
