10/23/23 Huestis Hall and Lokey Labs Electrical Shutdown

Begin:  Monday, October 23, 2023, at 7:30 am

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Huestis Hall, Lokey Labs

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Renovation project, panels fed from temporary power sources will be refed from the new permanent power sources.

Services Impacted:  This shutdown will affect services on electrical panels 4L1 and 2L1 including the Fire Alarm in Huestis and Lokey, hallway lights in Huestis and LEF 1&2 in Lokey Labs. Contractor will provide fire watch.

Copier Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. The software on these machines can be negatively affected due to the power surge when the power is turned back on.  A power surge can corrupt the clone files in the machines and change preconfigured settings.  For questions, please contact Kati Kronholm at 541-346-5370 or katik@uoregon.edu.  For non-copier questions, please reach out to the contact person listed below.

Fume Hood Instructions:  Fume hood sashes should be closed and containers within the fume hoods sealed prior to this date.

Fire Alarm Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

10/17/23 Riverfront Parkway Traffic Advisory

Begin:  Tuesday, October 17, 2023

End:      Tuesday, October 17, 2023

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Riverfront Parkway, Knight Campus Building 1, Millrace Garage, 1600 Millrace & other buildings on Millrace Drive.

Scope:  Tuesday, October 17th, a concrete pour is scheduled at the Knight Campus Building 2 construction site.

Services Impacted:

  • There will be frequent concrete truck traffic on Riverfront Parkway both northbound from Franklin Blvd. and southbound onto Franklin Blvd for the duration of the day.
  • Hoffman will have flaggers located along Riverfront Parkway to assist with traffic.
  • No roads will be closed.

10/12/23 – 10/16/23 Prince Lucien Campbell Emergency Steam Shutdown

UPDATE 10/17/23:

Repairs are now complete, and steam has been restored to the building.

Repairs are still ongoing and not expected to be complete until Monday.  A notice will be sent when the steam has been turned back on.

Scope:  Due to two valves failing on the steam hydronics, an emergency steam shut down is required while the parts are being rebuilt.

10/09/23 – 10/13/23 Seasonal Building Steam Management for Fall 2023

Scope:  Starting the week of October 9th, 2023, the Mechanical shop will again implement its process for systematically activating the heat within steam-controlled buildings. This process can take several days depending on if any problems arise during this time.

Additional Notes:  Turning on and off the steam is very hard on the infrastructure serving our building’s mechanical systems.  Seasonal adjustments are based on the following format:

Steam is turned on in the Fall when:

  • Night-time outside air temperature is below 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND daytime temperatures are below 70 degrees for five consecutive days

Steam is turned off in the Spring when:

  • Night-time outside air temperatures are above 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND the daytime temperature is above 70 degrees for five consecutive days
