UPDATE 5/08/24:   
An emergency shutdown of the clean steam has been implemented due to a leak.  Components of repair are being evaluated.  This will affect the clean steam supply to the entire building and will be offline for an undetermined amount of time.  A notice will be sent when services have been restored.

2/28/24 – 3/01/24 Klamath Hall and Zebrafish International Resource Center Clean Steam Shutdown

Begin:  Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 8:00 am

End:      Friday, March 1, 2024, at 8:00 am

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Klamath Hall and Zebrafish International Resource Center

Scope:  Due to a steam leak from the tunnel untreated “clean” steam pipeline, the pipeline will be shut down for emergency repairs.

Services Impacted:

  • This will affect the “clean” steam only.
  • This outage will not affect normal steam or building heating.
  • Work will take place in the utility tunnel.

Scope:  Due to annual maintenance on the Central Power Station’s clean steam generator, clean steam will be unavailable.  However, chemical treated steam will be bypassed to the pipeline during the generator maintenance.

Services Impacted:  Only applies to clean steam users. No other building steam heating nor hot water will be affected.

1/23/23 – 1/25/23 Huestis, Klamath, LISB, Streisinger, Willamette, and ZIRC Autoclave Steam Shutdown

Begin:  Monday, January 23, 2023, at 5:00 am

End:      Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at 4:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Huestis Hall, Klamath Hall, Lewis Integrative Science Building (LISB), Streisinger Hall, Willamette Hall, Zebrafish International Resource Center (ZIRC)

Scope:  Due to the failure of a steam expansion joint on the clean steam line to campus, all clean steam fed from CPS will be shut down to make repairs. The pipeline alignment, pipe supports, and damaged insulation will be replaced as part of the project.

Services Impacted:

  • This will affect clean steam in the buildings listed above.
  • Work will take place in the tunnel near Knight Campus.

7/6-7/7 Zebrafish International Resource Center (ZIRC) Heating and Cooling Shutdown

Scope:  The building’s heating and cooling will be shut off to complete the install of building utility metering.

Services Impacted:  This will affect the building’s heating and cooling.

Cascade Hall HVAC Shutdown 8/26/21

Begin:  Thursday, August 26th, 2021 at 7:00 am

End:      Thursday, August 26th, 2021, 2021 at 6:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Impacted:  Cascade Hall

Scope:  Each HVAC unit will be shut down for approximately ½ – 1 day during the timeframe indicated to perform cleaning. This is part of the wildfire insurance response project.

Services Impacted:  This will impact the main building air but should not affect mini-splits and local temperature control units.

Note:  Fume hood sashes will need to be closed and containers within the fume hoods sealed prior to the shutdown.

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Clean Steam and Air Handler Shutdowns 6/14/21, 6/16/21 – 6/17/21

Dates:  

  • Monday, June 14th, 2021 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Wednesday, June 16th, 2021 at 7:30 am through Thursday, June 17th, 2021 at 3:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Impacted:  Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

Scope:  The clean steam generator needs to have the steam isolation valve and the tube bundle replaced. We will be shutting down the steam and air handlers on Monday the 14th of June for approximately 5 hours starting at 9am, as a test to monitor the impact a lengthier shut down will have on the building later on in the week. If all goes well in regard to humidity etc. during the test day on the 14th of June, we will be shutting down the steam/air handlers to the whole building on Wednesday the 16th and replacing the isolation valve and tube bundle to the clean steam generator. The steam and air handlers will remain off until the 17th.  It is the intention of the mechanical shop to have all systems back and operational at the end of business on June 17th.

Services Impacted:  Whole building heat, humidity control, and supply air will be offline.

Clean Steam Shutdown 4/20/21

UPDATE 4/20: The autoclave clean steam heat exchanger is back online. Please allow 4-8 hours for the chemical treated steam to work its way out of the pipeline.

Scope:  Due to a leaking steam condensate valve and a damaged temperature probe wire, the autoclave clean steam heat exchanger will be shut down. Chemical treated steam will be cross connected to the pipeline for the duration of the shutdown.

Services Impacted

·           Clean steam will be unavailable but chemically treated 60 psi steam will be cross connected and routed through the pipeline for the duration of the shutdown.

·           No building heat or hot water will be impacted.

Science Buildings Emergency Clean Steam Shutdown 11/5/20 – 11/10/20

3rd UPDATE:

The clean steam is back up to the science buildings. Utilities & Energy staff have made temporary repairs to the clean steam generator. When the new parts arrive, a follow-up shutdown of clean steam will be scheduled to finalize repairs.

 

2nd UPDATE:

The problem is determined to be a faulty transducer. Parts are on order and expected to arrive next week. An update will be sent when the new parts are installed.

1st UPDATE:

  • Chemical treated 60 psi steam has been cross connected and provided for the duration of the shutdown.
  • Utility Electricians, Utility Operators, and Contactors are working on the problem until it is corrected.
  • We will send you an update when clean steam has been put back into service.

Onyx Bridge Water Shutdown 1/21/2020

Building Impacted:  Onyx Bridge

Scope:  Repair is needed on domestic cold water line located in rooms 371/372 (see corroded pipe image below).

Services Impacted:  Building wide water shutdown affecting hot and cold water in restrooms, drinking fountains, autoclave steam, fume hoods, industrial hot and cold water.

Extra Notes:  RO/DI water will not be affected.

Streisinger Steam & Fume Hood Shutdown 8/22

Building Occupants,

Facilities has coordinated in advance with primary building occupants the need to perform necessary preventative maintenance and steam repairs on building systems Wednesday, August 22 from 6 am – 4 pm. This will require HVAC work in the animal labs from 6 am – 10 am, and fume hoods will be down from 8 am – 4 pm.

This will impact:
• HVAC Air Supply
• Steam/Condensate
• Fume Hoods
• Exhaust
• Autoclave Steam

Building Occupants,

Utilities and Energy need to perform required maintenance on the boiler that provides clean steam for the autoclaves and cage washers located in Streisinger, Klamath, Pacific,  ZIRC, LISB, Huestis, Onyx, and University Health Counseling and Testing Center.  They are proposing to start March 26th at 7:00 am and end on March 27th at 5:00 pm.

If preferred, 60# treated steam is available.  Please send Mo a request to let him know you need this.
