Campus Community,

Due to the installation of new rooftop mechanical equipment on the Knight Library Kincaid Street will be vacated by the City of Eugene the night of 2/28/17 thru 5:00 pm 3/3/17 from just north of 14th to the cul-de-sac south of the Knight Library loading dock.  This is necessary to accommodate the crane staging.

3/1 – 3/3 between 8:00 am, and 3:00 pm contractors will be lifting new mechanical equipment onto the Knight Library roof.   Rooms located on the west side of Knight Library with windows facing the street and adjacent rooms, must be vacated during this time.   Bike racks and pedestrian traffic on the NW side of the Library will be temporarily closed for the safety of the campus community.

03/02/2017: Odor Test Friendly Hall

Building Occupants,

With the hope to identify a recurring odor crews will be performing an odor test in Friendly Hall on Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 8:00 am – 9:00 am.  This test will take place on the outside air intake on the NE corner of the building.  Building Occupants may notice a mild banana oil smell.  Zone A is working closely with Environmental Health and Safety with the hope to identify the legacy odor source.

UPDATE: 03/01/2017: Huestis Preventative Maintenance

Customer Service has received additional information regarding the scheduled preventative maintenance at Huestis tomorrow March 1, 2017.

The north side of the building will experience intermittent exhaust shutdowns from 8:00 am – 10:00 am.  The south side of the building will experience intermittent exhaust shutdowns from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.  This is general exhaust no fume hoods will be affected.

Update Regarding Klamath Shutdown Tomorrow February 25, 2017

New information regarding the Klamath shutdown tomorrow February 25, 2017, from 6:00 am – 6:00 pm.  This shutdown replaces a previously scheduled shutdown for March 4, 2017, due to scheduling conflicts with department events.

Updates:

  • Onyx basement restrooms will not have water and will be closed for the day; signage will be placed as a reminder. No other impacts are expected in Onyx.
  • Price Commons will not have heat from approximately 6 a.m. to mid-afternoon. No other impacts are expected in Price Commons.
  • Klamath will have a building-wide water, condensate and heat shutdown. All restrooms will be closed; signage will be placed as a reminder.
  • There is also noisy construction planned tomorrow by the contractor on 2nd floor remodel. A previous message went out regarding this work. Denise Stewart is coordinating this work; Klamath 2nd Floor Noise Advisory Information

As part of the Klamath waterline project, our Contractor, Andersen Construction, has requested to schedule a building-wide water shutdown this coming Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 6:00 am – 6:00 pm that will affect all water services including domestic hot, cold and steam services.  Please note – we will NOT be shutting down the Fire Sprinkler system.  The Project Manager has confirmed the fire system is on a separate line.

Please let Jana Gerow as soon as possible if this date does not work for you or if it will affect your research activities.

02/23/2017: Brief Smoke Test Advisory in Klamath Mechanical Room B-45

Building Occupants,

Due to the Klamath Water Line Project Andersen Construction has assembled a containment zone (with fire rated plastic that exhausts to the exterior) in Klamath B-45 mechanical room for welding and grinding associated with the project.  On February 23, 2017, from 6:00 am – 7:00 am Andersen Construction will be conducting a brief smoke test to verify the seal before work commencing.

The monitored area is:

Primary Zone = Basement

Secondary Zones = Ground to 3rd Floor

There may be a smell associated with this test.  Please contact Andersen Construction & Alliant Systems at 541-231-5020 or the CPFM Project Manager Jana Gerow at 541-346-8317 first with any concerns or odor associated with this project.

 

02/25/2017: Klamath 2nd Floor Noise Advisory

Building Occupants,

This Saturday, February 25th, 6 am – 5 pm GBC Construction will be working on the 2nd floor of Klamath within the construction area on the below map performing noisy activities.  They are working Saturday in order not to impact weekly teaching activities.  Loud work activities Saturday will include the following.

  • Concrete removal in the area shaded in red on the attached plan. The concrete to be removed is isolated from the structure by foam insulation which will help to dampen the work, but there will be associated noise.  The area of concrete removal will be contained to control and exhaust any dust.
  • Various wall framing throughout the 2nd-floor construction area shown on the attached plan. The wall framing does need to be anchored to the concrete structure and that anchoring will have associated noise.

02/23/2017: Domestic Water Shutdown Gerlinger, Gerlinger Annex, Hendricks, and Susan Campbell

Due to valve replacement, domestic cold and hot water that services Gerlinger, Gerlinger Annex, Hendricks, and Susan Campbell will be intermittently shutdown February 23, 2017, between 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. UO CPFM and EWEB will perform this work.

02/15/2017: Columbia Street Garage Fire System Testing

Wednesday, February 15th

Columbia Street Garage  6:00am – 8:00am

Horns, Strobes and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time, but there may be activity such as door holders closing and smoke detector testing that will occur throughout the morning. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

02/17/17: Tree Work between Fenton and Deady

Campus Community,

On February 17, 2017, Sperry Tree Care will be on site performing tree work between Fenton and Deady.  Due to the nature of the work noise is expected.  Sidewalks closures will be marked for the safety of the campus community.  Most of the noise impact will be completed before 11:00 am.  No building entrances will be affected.  Below is a map of the impacted area.

2/13 – 2/15: Crane arrival, and Completion of the NEW Hayward Cell Tower

**This notice REPLACES the previously scheduled February 6 and 7, 2017 crane pick event**

During the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm Tuesday, 2/14/17 all types of traffic; automotive, bike and foot traffic, will be restricted from where vehicles turn off of 18th to the north, to access the Hayward Cell tower construction site. This will also include a 90-foot radius around the tower as shown in the attached drawing.

On either Monday, 2/13 or by 7:00 am the morning of Tuesday, 2/14, (depending on weather and traffic) the crane will arrive on site and be set up. The crane will have a 120’ boom. Trucks with portions of the cell tower will arrive by 9:00 am and stage/park on 18th where hooded meters are located. The tower which currently stands approximately 129 feet from the ground, will have internal antennas placed on the tower, an outer sheath, small antennas put on the south face at approximately 45 feet off the ground and when the assembly is completed will stand 159’ tall. Following the sheath, the crane will be disassembled and removed from the site, either before 7:00 pm on 2/14/17 or the next day 2/15.

** Please honor all traffic control barriers, signs, and flagmen. PLEASE avoid this area of the campus these days as much as possible.**
