Scope:  Starting the week of May 31st, the Mechanical shop will again implement its process for systematically deactivating the heat within steam-controlled buildings. This process can take several days depending on if any problems arise during this time.

Additional Notes:  Turning on and off the steam is very hard on the infrastructure serving our building’s mechanical systems.  Seasonal adjustments are based on the following format:

Steam is turned on in the Fall when:

  • Night-time outside air temperature is below 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND daytime temperatures are below 70 degrees for five consecutive days

Steam is turned off in the Spring when:

  • Night-time outside air temperatures are above 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND the daytime temperature is above 70 degrees for five consecutive days

5/30/22 AMAG Holiday Door Locks for Memorial Day

As a reminder, FASS-managed AMAG doors are locked on university-observed holidays unless otherwise requested. Card access for authorized individuals will still work on holidays, but FASS-managed doors will be LOCKED to the public on Monday, May 30th, 2022.

Scope:  As part of the Baker Downtown Center Reroof project, the HVAC system that serve the offices and conference rooms on the south east side of the building will be offline.  A crane will be used to remove and replace the unit. The crane will be parked on the east side of the building outside the loading dock area.

  • The HVAC system to the SE side of the building will be inoperable during this time.
  • Access to the dock will be affected.

The software on these machines can be negatively affected due to the power surge when the power is turned back on.  A power surge can corrupt the clone files in the machines and change preconfigured settings.

Scope:  Beginning the week of 5/23/22 there will be intermittent shotcrete applications as well as significant pre-tensioning activities in the Back Forty area.

Services Impacted:

  • During shotcrete applications no parking will be allowed along the perimeter surrounding the central plant on the south, north or west sides (see attached picture).
  • During the pre-tensioning work parking and transit will remain closed on the Central Plants west side, and no workers or transit will be allowed within the work area (see attached picture) due to high level safety concerns.
  • The project team is communicating with affected work groups towards enabling work to continue with as limited interruption as possible.

Additional Notes: Additional notices/schedules will be posted prior to the start of these activities, but please keep this upcoming work in mind for your future planning.

Scope: We are beginning a project to improve the ADA ramp and run power to charge electric vehicles, a sub-contractor will be saw cutting the asphalt and removing planting from the landscaping strip at lot 7B on the west side of McKenzie Hall.

Services Impacted:  Access to the Parking lot, sidewalk and the ADA ramp will be impacted. Classrooms 229 and 240 will be most directly affected.

Extra Notes: they have the goal completing this before the first morning class for the nearest classrooms at 10:00 am.

As part of the Huestis Renovation project, we will be conducting a short period of equipment testing on level 1 of Huestis Hall that could produce vibrations throughout Huestis Hall and Lokey Labs.  Equipment will be staged in the main hallway and north lobby of level 1.

Huestis will be vacated so the access advisory is no longer applicable.

UPDATE:
The fire water line shutdown will still occur 5/14 as scheduled, however the domestic water shutdown has been rescheduled for next Saturday, May 21, due to delays in materials.  Willamette Hall will also be affected by the domestic water shutdown on Saturday, May 21st.

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Hall Renovation project, the main domestic water line and fire water line will be shut down on Saturday for 8 hours.

Services Impacted:  All services that need water will be unavailable during this time. This could include lab equipment, HVAC building equipment, fire sprinkler systems, and restroom plumbing services.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

5/13/22 Huestis and Lokey Labs Access Advisory 5/13/22

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Hall Renovation project, construction site fencing and overhead scaffolding protection at egress ways will be installed, Friday, May 13, 2022. This will complete the construction fenced area for the next year, see attached site logistics map.

Services Impacted:

  • East and south entries/egress to and from Huestis and Lokey Labs at ground level will be impacted during the installation of the fence and overhead scaffolding. Staff is encouraged to use LISB and Streisinger entries and exits during this installation period. Mortenson will have flaggers onsite to direct personnel during an emergency egress event.
  • Interior access to Huestis levels 1-3 and Huestis elevator will not be available after May 13. See attached interior egress routes for Huestis, Lokey, LISB and Streisinger.
  • After the scaffolding and fencing is installed, the NE entry to Lokey Labs will be available for everyday access and egress to Lokey Labs and Huestis Basement. Emergency egress will be available at the south out of Huestis Basement and Lokey Labs.

UPDATE:  The new  steam heat pipeline has been active since December.

 

UPDATE:  A walkthrough with contractors has been completed, we are now working through proposals, ordering parts, and setting up equipment to prepare for excavation in order to install a new pipeline and return heat to the building.  The timeline for completion is unknown at this time.
