7/03/23 Knight Library Fire Alarm Testing

Scope:  Fire alarm testing will occur Monday, July 3rd, in the morning. ( I apologize for this late notice; I was just contacted by IES and they thought Monday the 3rd would be a good quiet day for testing.  I have reached out to Doug Hodson already and he has alerted staff.)

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

6/23/23 – 10/30/23 Heritage Renovation Project Informational Bulletin

UPDATE 10/25/23:
Fortis Construction is fully mobilizing onto the Project site beginning October 30th.  Work activity for the removal for restoration of the University and Villard Hall windows will also commence, as well as interior building demolition within the two buildings and continue for the next few months.

NOTICE AND REMINDER 8/08/23:

  • Villard Hall Theatre Arts department move has been completed.

  • Villard Hall is closed and open only to authorized abatement and construction contractors and university personnel.

 

REMINDER 7/17/23:

Scope:  General information for summer activity associated with the Heritage Renovation Project (exterior historic preservation and interior remodel of University and Villard Halls) are outlined as follows:

    • Contractors Fortis Construction and GBC Construction will periodically be in both Villard Hall and University Hall prior to established department move dates for pre-abatement and demolition investigations and activity.  When the department move dates are reached and moves completed, the buildings will be off-line for access without specific approval.  Once abatement starts, the buildings and site will be fully restrictive access.
    • The parking area between University and Villard Halls will remain open until July 16. Beginning July 17, Fortis Construction will begin setting up construction fencing and closing off access to this parking area. Initial construction fencing will enclose Villard Hall as well, limiting access into the building.
    • Villard Hall department moves are scheduled for July 19-21.
    • Villard Hall abatement is scheduled to begin August 7 and will continue into September.
    • Access into University Hall will continue until the end of the second summer class session, August 18. (But parking lot will be offline for vehicles)
    • University Hall: Mathematics department move is scheduled for August 21-23. Construction fencing to enclose University Hall is targeted to begin in this time period as well.
    • University Hall abatement is scheduled to begin September 4 and will continue into October.
    • In conjunction with construction fencing installation, vehicular and pedestrian pathway closure and rerouting signage will be put in place.

The VFD install will not be complete until after 3:00 pm today and the factory start-up on the VFD is now scheduled for 8:00 am tomorrow morning.  Therefore, the shutdown will need to remain in place until tomorrow at approximately 11:00 am 6/27/23.

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  West and north sides of the UO Duck Store, E. 13th Ave., and Kincaid Street

Scope:  A privately engineered public improvement (PEPI) project is planned for construction within the right-of-way that is adjacent to the UO Duck Store. The project is privately designed, privately funded, and privately constructed.  The construction will occur at 871 E 13th Avenue in Eugene, Oregon 97401.  Please see the attached map for the project location.

Construction within E. 13th Avenue will begin in late June, approximately June 26th. Construction within Kincaid Street will begin roughly a week later.  During construction, the sidewalk on the north side of E. 13th Avenue and on the west side of Kincaid Street will be closed. Work on Kincaid Street will be done at night.  This project includes utility Improvements. The improvements include:

  • Sanitary sewer line extension
  • New sanitary manhole
  • Storm line extension
  • New storm manhole
  • Minor paving 12th Alley, E 13th Avenue and Kincaid Street

Offices will be inspected daily in case of water leaks during the cleaning.

Services Impacted:

  • The third-floor restroom will be closed during this time.
  • Noise can be expected while the pressure washer is in use.

Special Instructions:  Please use restrooms on the lower floors.

7/11/23 Streisinger Hall Standby Power Shutdown

Scope:  As part of the Streisinger ATS project there will be a short shutdown (2 hours) of standby electrical services.  A transfer switch (changes electrical feeds to the building, should the need arise) is being installed to provide electrical redundancy in the event of an outage/issue, in order to enable operations to continue without issue.

Services Impacted:  No interruptions of normal power will occur, and normal operations will be able to continue without interference.

Special Instructions:  CPFM has worked with occupants to ensure they are supported during the outage, but please contact us if further discussion if required.

6/20/23 – 6/23/23 Oregon Hall Ground Penetrating Radar Investigation

Scope:  We will be conducting a GPR (ground penetrating radar) investigation of the 3rd floor slab in specific areas of the SE portion of Oregon Hall on Tuesday, June 20th – Friday, June 23rd.  See attached plan for the general areas we are targeting.  Most of this investigation will be conducted in the currently unoccupied space on the 3rd floor.  We will be accessing the ceiling of the second floor offices for one day of the investigation.  I will be coordinating with those offices to mitigate the disruption while we capture this data.

Scope:  Installers from Fast Signs will be applying letter decals to the main, south entry store front to Lawrence Hall.

Services Impacted:  Work area will be coned off and will take place on only one set of doors at a time, leaving one set of doors open at all times.

6/20/23 – 6/30/23 Knight Library Fire Alarm System Offline

Begin:  Tuesday, June 20, 2023

End:      Friday, June 30, 2023

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Knight Library

Scope:  We will be installing a new fire alarm panel at the Knight Library as part of phase one to upgrade the system. This will involve some alarm testing once the new panel is installed, further notices will be shared when specific test times are identified. This work will occur primarily during the week between terms.

Services Impacted:  Work will take place in room 130A and near the front check-out desk.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

6/14/23 Frohnmayer Music – Steam Repair Impacting Heating

Begin:  June 14, 2023, 7:00 am

Scope:  Due to an abandoned in place steam control valve, the building heat will be shut down for removal.

Services Impacted:  The work will take place in mechanical room 020.  Minimal to no impact to the building due to summer weather.
