6/23/23 – 10/30/23 Heritage Renovation Project Informational Bulletin

UPDATE 10/25/23:
Fortis Construction is fully mobilizing onto the Project site beginning October 30th.  Work activity for the removal for restoration of the University and Villard Hall windows will also commence, as well as interior building demolition within the two buildings and continue for the next few months.

NOTICE AND REMINDER 8/08/23:

  • Villard Hall Theatre Arts department move has been completed.
  • Parking Lot 9 is enclosed by construction fencing and no longer open to public access.
  • Villard Hall abatement staging began today and abatement activity will continue into September.
  • Villard Hall is closed and open only to authorized abatement and construction contractors and university personnel.

 

REMINDER 7/17/23:

  • July 17, Fortis Construction began setting up construction fencing and closing off access to Parking Lot 9. Initial construction fencing will enclose Villard Hall as well, limiting access into the building.  Sidewalks/pathways on the north and east sides of Villard will remain open.
  • Villard Hall department moves are scheduled for July 19-21.
  • Villard Hall abatement is scheduled to begin August 7 and will continue into September.
  • Access into University Hall will continue until the end of the second summer class session, August 18. (But parking lot will be offline for vehicles)

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Villard Hall, University Hall, Parking Lot 9

Scope:  General information for summer activity associated with the Heritage Renovation Project (exterior historic preservation and interior remodel of University and Villard Halls) are outlined as follows:

    • Contractors Fortis Construction and GBC Construction will periodically be in both Villard Hall and University Hall prior to established department move dates for pre-abatement and demolition investigations and activity.  When the department move dates are reached and moves completed, the buildings will be off-line for access without specific approval.  Once abatement starts, the buildings and site will be fully restrictive access.
    • The parking area between University and Villard Halls will remain open until July 16. Beginning July 17, Fortis Construction will begin setting up construction fencing and closing off access to this parking area. Initial construction fencing will enclose Villard Hall as well, limiting access into the building.
    • Villard Hall department moves are scheduled for July 19-21.
    • Villard Hall abatement is scheduled to begin August 7 and will continue into September.
    • Access into University Hall will continue until the end of the second summer class session, August 18. (But parking lot will be offline for vehicles)
    • University Hall: Mathematics department move is scheduled for August 21-23. Construction fencing to enclose University Hall is targeted to begin in this time period as well.
    • University Hall abatement is scheduled to begin September 4 and will continue into October.
    • In conjunction with construction fencing installation, vehicular and pedestrian pathway closure and rerouting signage will be put in place.

Building 108 Recoating 3/17-3/31

Begin:  March 17, 2022

End:      March 31, 2022

Building(s) or Area(s) Impacted:  Building 108

Scope:  Facilities Services contractors will begin the process of recoating the exterior of Building 108 this week and next. The contractor will begin by pressure washing the exterior and then will apply a polyurethane coating to the exterior of the building in the coming weeks (weather permitting).

Services Impacted:  This will impact the building’s exterior.

Extra Notes:  Expect to see contractors coming and going from the project site, and minor construction noises may occur.

Friendly Hall Building Closure 8/14/20 – 9/4/20

UPDATE 8/21: Shoring installation and safety mitigation placement continues so the pre-cautionary measure of the building closure remains in effect and is extended through September 4th.  As previously noted the likelihood of consequence from this condition is extremely slight but we are taking every necessary precaution and I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.  Please contact Gene Mowery, 541-346-5593 or gmowery@uoregon.edu if you have questions.

Building(s) or Area(s) Impacted:  Friendly Hall

Scope:  In the course of the installation of a new elevator in Friendly Hall, an unforeseen foundation condition was exposed in the basement elevator pit location. As a precaution the project structural engineer has recommended that the building remain unoccupied until shoring is installed to remedy the condition. Shoring installation is expected to take place at the end of next week, targeted for August 19th. As a general precaution please avoid entry and occupancy of Friendly Hall until notified the shoring is in place. The likelihood of consequence from this condition is extremely slight but we are taking every necessary precaution and I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

Campus Community,

The Student Recreation Center will be closed August 24th – September 8th for planned annual maintenance. A portion of this closure will be dedicated to screening and sealing hardwood floors, which creates an odor in the area around the SRC that some people find unpleasant. The process is confirmed safe by UO Environmental Health and Safety, and the SRC will be ventilated thoroughly before reopening. Advanced notice was sent to Facilities Liaisons on June 25th.

Facilities Services, EHS and Building Occupants,

As part of SRC annual maintenance during the planned closure, this is advance notice that the Student Recreation Center will screen and seal its hardwood floors over five working days starting August 28. Outside vendor, New Dimension Hardwood Floors, will apply a new seal to SRC floors, which can create an odor in the area around the SRC that some people find unpleasant. The process is confirmed safe by UO Environmental Health and Safety, and the SRC ventilates thoroughly. No work will occur August 31-September 2 because of the weekend and Labor Day holiday, and the work will be complete by September 4 although related odors may be noticeable for a few days after completion.

2/3: [PACIFIC HALL] Rooms 318 – 324 Closure due to Crane Pick 2/3

This notice was sent to all building users in Pacific Hall.

Building Occupants,

Due to the Pacific Hall B-2 Renovations, the west side of the south wing will need to be vacated in Pacific Hall on Saturday, February 3rd from 6am-10am to allow for an additional crane pick to move equipment onto the roof.

This will impact rooms 318 – 324.

Pacific Hall B-2 Outage Timeline 9/9- 12/18

Closure: Pacific Hall Building Closure Due to Crane Activity 11/4 – 11/5

Building Occupants,

Pacific Hall will be temporarily closed Saturday November 4 – Sunday November 5 due to crane activity associated with the project.

Special Instructions: Due to safety concerns with overhead crane activity, all user access must be coordinated with CPFM project manager Nick Pritchard 612-803-0664 ahead of time.

Building systems will not be impacted as part of this closure.

10/6 – 10/8: Closures: Pacific North, Cascade Annex West and Lot 12A Due to Crane Activity

Building Occupants,

As part of the ongoing renovations the Pacific Hall north wing, Cascade Annex west and Parking Lot 12A will be closed due to crane activity from October 6, 2017 starting at 6:00 pm through October 8, 2017 at 4:00 pm .  This will impact parking and pedestrian traffic to Lawrence Hall and Onyx Bridge.

9/9/17: Pacific Hall South Wing Building Closure Due to Crane Staging

Building Occupants,

Due to crane staging related to construction activities on the west side of Pacific Hall, the entire South Wing will have to be vacated on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 5:00 am – 5:00 pm to ensure the safety of building occupants. The North Wing will remain open. If any users require access to the building, it must be coordinated with CPFM Design and Construction ahead of time.

Pacific Hall Building Closure 7/26/17 6:00 am – 7:00 am

Building Occupants,

Pacific Hall will close for approximately one hour, this Wednesday  morning, July 26, between 6 am and 7 am. This closure is to allow a crane to safely place equipment on the roof, for the Patrick Phillips Lab.

This is a purely precautionary measure, to ensure the safety of the building occupants.  No rooms in Pacific Hall may be occupied during the crane’s operation.

The crane will sit on the West side of Pacific Hall, which will require the temporary removal of select bicycle racks Tuesday and Wednesday and partial closure of the sidewalk, to provide a safe zone for operation. (see below map)
