Knight Library Fire Alarm Testing 8/1/19 and 8/2/19

UPDATE:

Further testing will need to be conducted on Friday, August 2nd, from 5:00 am to 8:00 am.

 

There will be a brief fire alarm test tomorrow morning, August 1st, from 6:00 am until 6:30 am.

Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time.  Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

Oregon 339 Paint Fume Advisory and HVAC Shutdown 8/3/19

On Saturday, August 3rd from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Facilities Services will be painting in room 339 of Oregon Hall. This will involve the application of a low-odor dry erase paint. In order to mitigate odors, Facilities will be shutting off the HVAC system during this time.  The shutdown will affect all of the third floor on the west side of the building.

In addition to performing the work on Saturday and shutting off the HVAC system, the following additional measures are being taken to limit odors:

-sealing HVAC register and return in room 339
-use of an air scrubber
-use of a minimal odor dry erase paint

No additional utility disruptions or shutoffs are expected at this time; however, if there are any additional disruptions or shutdowns to services, an additional notice will be distributed.

Lawrence Hall room 231 asbestos abatement notice: 8/5-8/7

Campus community,

Beginning Monday, August 5th and concluding Wednesday, August 7th, Facilities Services and their subcontractor will be abating asbestos containing materials from Lawrence Hall room 231. The work will be conducted inside a containment tent with full filtration and ACM protocols. There will be an “air-lock” style containment tent in part of the hallway outside room 231 as marked on the map. The hallway will be passable and remain in normal service during the work. Hendricks Water Fountains & Bottle Fill Stations Out of Service 7/31/19

On Wednesday July 31, 2019, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will be staging and sampling drinking fountains in Hendricks Hall for drinking-water monitoring. All drinking fountains and water-bottle fill stations will be tagged and left idle from 8:30 AM until approximately 4:00 PM. They will return to service after EHS has collected the samples.

Please do not use any tagged fixtures.

CPFM Compound – Fire Department Training Exercise 8/1/19

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

All CPFM vehicle traffic will need to route around the North and West sides of Utilities & Energy Compound from 9:30-11:30 during this time.

 

On Thursday, August 1st from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, SRS and CPFM we will be hosting the Eugene Springfield Fire Department Rescue Team as they conduct a training exercise in the CPFM compound.  The exercise will be in the vault located in the roadway between Building 130 and the Central Power Station.

The Rescue Team will practice removing a mannequin from the tunnel to simulate assisting an injured employee.  Be advised that there will be multiple fire department vehicles, as well as increased pedestrians in the area during the time of the training exercise, so please drive carefully.

1600 Millrace Planned Electrical Shutdown 8/1/19

On Thursday, August 1, between 4:00 and 4:45 p.m., individual floors at 1600 Millrace will each lose power for approximately two minutes while electric meters are being changed.

Building occupants may want to shut down their computers at 4:00 p.m. until power is restored and the lights come back on.

The work is being performed by EWEB technicians.

Pacific Room #122 Renovation Advisory 8/12/19 – 8/19/19

Beginning Monday, August 12th through Monday, August 19th, CPFM FS Construction Services will be doing renovation work in Pacific 122.  This will involve minor demo, electrical, patching and painting.  Users can expect to hear normal and occasional construction noises such as hammering and drilling, and during the painting portion, there may be a smell from the water-based latex, non-toxic paint.  Users might also see UO personnel entering/exiting the building with tools and materials during normal business hours.  No other utility disruptions or shutoffs are expected at this time, but should there be any, an additional notice will be distributed.

Knight Campus Annex Planned Fire Sprinkler Shutdown 7/31/19

As part of the EWEB utility meter upgrade, the fire sprinkler at KC Annex will be shut down for approximately 10 minutes on Wednesday, July 31, at 10 a.m. Electricity and water (both domestic and industrial) will not be affected and will operate normally. The Environmental Health and Safety Fire Marshall Department is aware and will monitor the situation during the shutdown.

Streisinger Lab 365 Renovation 8/5 – 9/27

Facilities Liaisons,

Ryan Thomas Construction will be renovating Streisinger Lab 365 starting on August 5 and continuing through the end of September.  Work will include minor demolition, new casework and painting.  Surrounding occupants can expect to hear occasional construction noises such as hammering and drilling.  No utility disruptions or shutdowns are expected at this time.  The scope of work should not introduce any vibration to the floor.  If there are any necessary disruptions or shutdowns to services, an additional notice will be distributed.

Important Dates and Closures for the Klamath Hall Project Impacting Parking, Building Access, Fume Hoods and Restrooms 8/16 – 8/19

Parking Closures 8/16 – 8/19

Parking Lots 12A and 12B will be closed. Pedestrian, bike and cart detours will be in place as shown on the attached map.  Lots are closed to allow for placement and use of a 500-ton crane that will set supply air units and exhaust fans onto the Klamath Hall rooftop. Friday, August 16th will be used to set up the crane with a second crane. Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th will be used to crane equipment from trucks in lot 12A onto the Klamath Hall rooftop. Monday, August 19th will be used to take down the crane with a second crane.

 

Building Closure 8/17 – 8/18

Klamath Hall only will be closed to all occupants. Klamath Hall needs to be vacant for safety due to the weights of the equipment being set onto the rooftop. Price Science Commons is not included in this building closure.

 

Exhaust/Fume Hood Shutdown 8/17 – 8/18

Klamath Hall only.  All exhaust and all fume hoods will be out of service Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th. The renovation contractor will be installing ductwork extensions onto the existing four exhaust stacks. During that work, all four exhaust fans need to be turned off to make the work feasible and safe.

 

Restrooms/Sinks Shutdown 8/17 – 8/18

Klamath Hall only.  All restrooms and all sinks will be out of service Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th the renovation contractor will be installing a new waste line making connections and disconnections to the existing waste piping. During that work, restrooms cannot have any use.  This includes sinks, urinals, and toilets.

Straub, Earl, Carson, Living Learning Center, and Walton Hall Compressed Air Shutdown 8/6/19

On Tuesday, August 6th, from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon, the main compressed air line in the tunnel will be shut down and moved in order to replace a steam expansion joint.  This will impact Straub Hall, Earl Hall, Carson Hall, Living Learning Center, and Walton Hall.

Allen Hall 2nd and 3rd Floor Power Shutdown 8/3/19 – 8/4/19

On Saturday, August 3rd  from 6:00 am to Sunday, August 4th at 4:00 pm, there will be a power interruption to large portions of the second and third floors of Allen Hall.  Panel feeders will be relocated as part of the SOJC project, impacting the 2nd and 3rd floor power and lighting systems (panels 2N1-4, 2N4-2, 2N3-2, 2N2-2 and 2N1-2).

Please power down computers before you leave for the weekend, Friday August 2nd.
