4/19/24 – Unknown – Paleoecology Research Building (112) Water Use Advisory

Begin:  Friday, April 19, 2024 – Effective Immediately

End:      Unknown

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Paleoecology Research Building (112)

During the course of EH&S’s drinking water monitoring program, the water in the Paleoecology Building was tested. The preliminary results were reviewed this morning and the water in the building has elevated levels of lead. Because of these test results, the following actions will be taken:

  1. A temporary drinking water source will be arranged and installed by CPFM.
  2. The building will be posted with signage indicating the issue.
  3. EHS and CPFM will review fixtures within the building and determine which are intended for use for drinking and cooking. Appropriate fixtures will be investigated further. Fixtures not intended for drinking or cooking use, such as lab fixtures, will be tagged appropriately.
  4. EHS and CPFM will begin investigative work on the cause of elevated lead. The first step will be to flush test the fixtures. Based on the results, repairs will be made and the fixtures re-tested. Fixtures will not be returned to service until they have successfully passed confirmation testing.

Investigation and remediation of this issue will be a combined effort between CPFM & EHS. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Adam Jones at asjones@uoregon.edu.

4/17/24 – 4/18/24 Campus Wide Garbage Service Advisory

UPDATE 4/18/24:

Hello Campus Partners,

Update on campus garbage service: late yesterday Facilities Services staff was able to pick up one of the repaired garbage trucks and put it into service this morning. Regular campus garbage service has resumed.

We, again, thank you for the understanding: please contact Kevin Farthing (541-359-6633, kfarthin@uoregon.edu) if you have any questions.

 Kevin Farthing
Associate Director
CFPM Facilities Services

Hello Campus Partners,

I wanted to reach out to you concerning a minor interruption in campus garbage pickup. Currently, both Facilities Services-owned trucks are experiencing mechanical issues that prevent them from picking up garbage. Both are currently being repaired by contractors in the area; however, we don’t have completion time for either. In order to mitigate the problem, we are picking up garbage in building dumpsters using our recycling vans. For today, we are concentrating on the residence halls and the EMU. We are also talking today with a third-party garbage hauler to temporarily service the campus while our trucks are being repaired. Be assured we are working to resume regular garbage service as soon as possible, and that we will let you know if there are any further developments, including the resumption of regular service.

We thank you for the understanding: please contact Kevin Farthing (541-359-6633, kfarthin@uoregon.edu) if you have any questions.
