4/19/24 – Unknown – Paleoecology Research Building (112) Water Use Advisory

Begin:  Friday, April 19, 2024 – Effective Immediately

End:      Unknown

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Paleoecology Research Building (112)

During the course of EH&S’s drinking water monitoring program, the water in the Paleoecology Building was tested. The preliminary results were reviewed this morning and the water in the building has elevated levels of lead. Because of these test results, the following actions will be taken:

  1. A temporary drinking water source will be arranged and installed by CPFM.
  2. The building will be posted with signage indicating the issue.
  3. EHS and CPFM will review fixtures within the building and determine which are intended for use for drinking and cooking. Appropriate fixtures will be investigated further. Fixtures not intended for drinking or cooking use, such as lab fixtures, will be tagged appropriately.
  4. EHS and CPFM will begin investigative work on the cause of elevated lead. The first step will be to flush test the fixtures. Based on the results, repairs will be made and the fixtures re-tested. Fixtures will not be returned to service until they have successfully passed confirmation testing.

Investigation and remediation of this issue will be a combined effort between CPFM & EHS. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Adam Jones at asjones@uoregon.edu.
