3/29/23 Campus Wide Island Mode Testing

UPDATE:
Island Mode testing has been completed for the day.

CPFM Utilities and Energy is scheduling Island Mode testing for Wednesday, March 29th between the hours of 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.  The date was moved to Wednesday, March 29th following feedback from campus partners.

The Island Mode testing will follow-up on the December failure to determine the root cause of the problem. The island mode procedure will be attempted several times throughout the scheduled test period.  As a result, short duration power outages may occur at any time throughout the testing period.  Utilities and Energy will have engineers who designed the equipment and service technicians onsite to assist us in determining the cause of the failure.  The electrical distribution system redundancy and resiliencies depend upon the properly functioning power generation system and island mode capabilities.

The Utilities and Energy would like to thank the campus community with the timely feedback and being flexible for this critical testing.

Special Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. The software on these machines can be negatively affected due to the power surge when the power is turned back on.  A power surge can corrupt the clone files in the machines and change preconfigured settings.  For questions, please contact Kati Kronholm at 541-346-5370 or katik@uoregon.edu.

4/03/23 Campus Wide Custodial Cleaning Announcement

Dear University of Oregon Campus Community,

Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) Facilities Services is pleased to announce that we will be moving back to a weekly office cleaning schedule. Beginning the week of April 3, 2023, and each subsequent week thereafter, Facilities Services’ custodians will enter each office and complete the following tasks:

  • Empty the trash and reline the trash can
  • Spot vacuum in unobstructed areas for carpeted floors
  • Spot mop in unobstructed areas for hard floors

Faculty and staff often request to opt out of having their offices cleaned. If custodial services are not wanted in an office, please reach out to the CPFM Work Control Center (WCC – see below for contact information) to make that request and your office will be omitted from cleaning.  If you find that after the program has started and your office is being missed, or you want to schedule a non-participating office for a cleaning, please contact WCC.

Trash receptacles needing emptied between cleanings may be set in the hallway at any time.

Please be patient with the custodians as we restart this service since this is a change in operations from the last several years. For operational reasons, regular building cleaning occurs on different shifts.  These shifts run 24-hours a day, Monday through Friday.  As a result, office occupants will not be notified before each cleaning and custodial staff will do their best to not interrupt you to clean your office.  If they come by and you are there, they will ask if they can get the trash and complete the tasks outlined above.  If it’s not a good time, let them know and they will come by at another time.

Thank you for your understanding as we improve this custodial service to campus.

If you have any questions, comments, or wish to opt out of office cleaning, contact CPFM Work Control at 541-346-2319 or workcontrolcenter@uoregon.edu .

CFPM Custodial Services Manager
