12/20/24 – 1/02/25 Campus Wide Winter Break Door Lock Procedure

Facilities Liaisons:

The purpose of this email is to share details of the door lock procedure for the Winter academic break schedule for 2024. This procedure is designed to protect against theft and vandalism while also providing access to specific public facing buildings on the UO’s campuses, as follows:

  • Most university building doors will be locked during observed holidays and academic breaks (including Winter Break 2024) as defined below.
  • Some buildings with public facing services may not be subject to the locking schedule, especially during this academic break. These buildings are listed on the website in the Exceptions list.
  • Faculty, staff, and student employees should already have either keys or prox card access to enter buildings during these times. Departments have authorized individuals who can request access for those who may need it for the Break period.
  • No changes will be made to regular individual access, so anyone with existing access will still be able to access their normal locations.

Please note that during the Winter Break period (i.e., closing time on Friday, December 20th until Thursday, January 2nd at 7:00 A.M.) most buildings on campus will be closed and locked.

Authorized individuals may request exceptions to the locking procedure by meeting specific criteria listed in the procedure. Requests for exceptions can be submitted to FASS IT by calling 541-346-2245 or by emailing fass@uoregon.edu, providing as much advance notice as possible, and noting which exception criteria their situation(s) meets. FASS-IT will consult with the Campus Vulnerability Assessment Team on approval of exemptions.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. My email address is: carl.peaster@uopd.org

Thank you!

11/05/24 Prince Lucien Campbell Cardboard Dumpster Reminder

Please note that building occupants are responsible for taking out their own cardboard to the exterior dumpster.  Per University Fire Code, cardboard is not to be piled inside buildings.  The nearest cardboard dumpster for PLC is next to the NW entrance by Kincaid Street. – see map and picture below

Cardboard needs to be flattened when recycled.  Unflattened boxes fill up containers and require more frequent pick-ups and increased costs for this service.

All buildings are on a route schedule that is determined by the average amount generated.  If you are expecting a large volume of cardboard to be generated from events, shipments, moves, etc. please contact CPFM Work Control at 541-346-2319 or workcontrolcenter@uoregon.edu to add an extra pickup to building services.

Thank you to everyone for doing their part.

9/30/24 Campus Door Lock Schedule Transitioning from Summer to Fall

Facilities Liaisons:

The purpose of this email is to share details of the door lock procedure in place until Monday, September 30th, the beginning of Fall Term 2024. All of our building locking procedures are designed to protect against theft and vandalism while also providing access to specific public facing buildings on the UO’s campuses. Please note the following:

  • Most university building doors will be on the summer locking schedule until the beginning of Fall Term. This means that some doors that are usually unlocked during normal school sessions (i.e., Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms) will remain locked or will remain on a different unlocking schedule (i.e., different days/hours) pending a request for an exception.
  • Some buildings with public facing services may not be subject to the locking schedule. These buildings are listed on the website in the Exceptions list. (Please note that Price Science Commons is also included in this list even though it is not listed on the Exceptions list Website.)
  • Faculty, staff, and student employees should already have either keys or prox card access to enter buildings during these times.
  • Departments have authorized individuals who can request access or request a schedule change during this week before Fall Term. These individuals should contact FASS-IT to make these requests. (See below.)
  • No changes will be made to regular individual access, so anyone with existing access will still be able to access their normal locations.

Once again, the summer building locking schedule for locking most buildings changes to the regular school building schedule on Monday, September 30th at 7:00 A.M.

FASS-IT will consult with UOPD for approval of exemptions.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you experience a problem. My email address is: carl.peaster@uopd.org

Please note that some issues have previously been pointed out and should have been corrected; however, there may still be some gaps in this process as the “Summer into Fall” schedule works a little different than our Winter or Spring break schedules.

Thank you for your assistance in constantly helping to improve this process!

As the encampment begun earlier this week continues, we wanted to update you, as our facilities managers, of what to expect and how to access assistance when needed.

The University of Oregon goes to great lengths to support a safe working and educational environment for its students, faculty, and staff. The University has policies, and best practices for events to create and sustain a safe environment for the campus community.  We are meeting with the students involved in the encampment and have shared the policies and expectations. They have also been notified of the policies that have been violated.

Please note the following relevant information:

  • Safety & Risk Services (SRS) staff will be checking buildings through the weekend for graffiti or other damage. Next week, during normal business hours, please keep an eye out for vandalism, graffiti, or other things that seem out of place and report that as soon as possible to UOPD: 541-346-2919.
  • Building schedules may be changed for campus safety and security. Some are closing early and/or limiting access. If you choose to do so, notify uoem@uoregon.edu of your plans.
  • Should there be a large change to campus operations, class schedules, or other unforeseen event, we will notify the university community via the emergency notification system and through UO Alerts. This information may come as a text message in a true emergency, or email for general notification.

In an emergency, call 9-1-1. To report a criminal concern, contact UO Police Department at 541-346-2919.
