9/14/22 Planned Power Outage

UPDATE:
Utilities & Energy has switched from island mode back to the normal power configuration as planned.
Please report any issues caused by the outage, including IT, to the CPFM Work Control Center at 541-346-2319,  workcontrolcenter@uoregon.edu, or by entering a service request on the UO call log https://cgis.uoregon.edu/Calllog.
Thank you.

We are writing to remind you of the upcoming annual planned power outage on Wednesday, September 14th, 2022.

In the event our campus service from the local EWEB electrical grid is interrupted, the UO Utility and Energy plant is capable of providing the campus with electricity (called Island Mode). To best ensure this system operates as designed when needed, the Utility and Energy plant now exercises this system annually. This year’s Island Mode event will take place on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 7:35 am.

At 7:35 am, the entire campus will shift from the primary EWEB power source to the backup generator system at the Central Power Station, also known as “Island Mode”.

While not anticipated, some buildings may briefly lose power when the switch occurs, if a portion of the system does not perform as expected.

At 7:45 am, Feeder 1 will be de-energized.  Affected buildings will experience a  power outage lasting approximately 1 hour.  During this time Utilities and Energy staff will be disconnecting power in a vault for a switch replacement project and exchanging the feeder breaker. Crews will then ensure systems are successfully coming back online.

At 9:00 am, Feeder 10 will be de-energized.  Affected buildings will experience a power outage lasting 15 minutes. During this time Utilities and Energy staff will be exchanging the feeder breaker.  Crews will then ensure systems are successfully coming back online.

At 10:00 am, Standby feeder 2 will be de-energized. This will have no affect to the campus buildings.

At 12:00 noon, Utilities and Energy will Initiate normal power configuration.

For a detailed schedule of feeders and maps of buildings affected, visit the 2022 Power Outage webpage. Updates about the project will be posted on that page and Around the O.

Individuals who wish to request planning assistance for the outages should contact Campus Planning and Facilities Management Work Control at workcontrolcenter@uoregon.edu or 541-346-2319.

Please remember to shut down all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers. The software on these machines can be negatively affected due to the power surge when the power is turned back on.  A power surge can corrupt the clone files in the machines and change preconfigured settings.

LISB Fume Hood Exhaust System Shutdown 12/13-12/17

UPDATE:
Siemens is complete with the repair and testing of the new controls.  Fume hoods are now operational.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

With the lack of exhaust air in the building, many of the lab spaces may have issues with positive air pressure (relative to the adjacent space).  This will cause the doors with mechanical closures to remain ajar.  Unfortunately, this issue will persist until the exhaust shutdown is complete on Friday.  Until then, the best solution will be to manually close any doors with automatic closures, especially those with access control (card readers).

Fume hood alarms can be silenced locally via the silence button located on the Operator Display Panel located on the front of the fume hood. (See photos)

Original Notice

Once the new controller is installed, the fans will be brought back on line for testing and calibration of the new controls. During this testing and calibration phase, the fans may start and stop at any time. During the scheduled shutdown, the fume hoods should not be assumed operational until an “All Clear” notification is sent out from CPFM Work Control.

Services Impacted:  This will affect all fume hoods within the building.
