11/04/24 Hamilton Hall Electrical Vault Installation and Sidewalk Access Advisory

Scope:  To facilitate locating activities, towards the installation of a new electrical vault, the projects Contractor will be closing down a portion of sidewalk as shown in the included overview – please see alternate pedestrian path, shown in blue.

Services Impacted:

  • During this work, a vac-truck will be parked in the adjacent bike lane, also shown, with traffic controllers in place to assist with traffic movement. The adjacent crosswalk will remain open all through this activity.
  • Some construction noise will be present, intermittently.
  • The work area will be enclosed in construction fencing, for your protection. This fencing will remain in place until the vault is installed in December (scheduled to occur over winter break, weather depending).

  • As part of the pre-construction services for the Friendly Hall Project, the contractor will be conducting a 3D building scan of the interiors and exterior of the building, including roofs.
  • Interior scanning is planned for hallways on all floors and the interior of rooms 30, 403, 404, 405, 406, and 421.
  • Users of the building may notice small red and white targets set in various locations inside and outside of the building.
  • Exterior scanning will be weather dependent, but the current schedule is as follows:
    • Exterior scanning October 28 – October 29
    • Interior scanning October 30 – November 1

  • Fencing and signage will be provided to mark out which areas and sidewalks will be closed throughout the project.

Scope:  To improve campus resilience, new electrical feeders and switches are being connected/installed on campus. And as part of our current project, a short building outage is required to make the necessary connections.

Services Impacted:  All building power will be unavailable during this outage.  Accordingly, please make sure to take all necessary preparations such as: unplugging computers/printers, making sure refrigerated/frozen items are accommodated for, how to enter building(s) while card readers are offline, etc.

Special Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. Scope:  EWEB’s contractor Foundation Engineering Inc. will be conducting a geotechnical investigation on Millrace Drive and will be drilling two boring holes.

  • This will require the use of drilling equipment in the street which may result in noise.
  • Millrace Drive will be closed, but access to all driveways and sidewalks will be maintained.

9/30/24 Campus Door Lock Schedule Transitioning from Summer to Fall

Facilities Liaisons:

The purpose of this email is to share details of the door lock procedure in place until Monday, September 30th, the beginning of Fall Term 2024. All of our building locking procedures are designed to protect against theft and vandalism while also providing access to specific public facing buildings on the UO’s campuses. Please note the following:

  • Most university building doors will be on the summer locking schedule until the beginning of Fall Term. This means that some doors that are usually unlocked during normal school sessions (i.e., Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms) will remain locked or will remain on a different unlocking schedule (i.e., different days/hours) pending a request for an exception.
  • Some buildings with public facing services may not be subject to the locking schedule. These buildings are listed on the website in the Exceptions list. (Please note that Price Science Commons is also included in this list even though it is not listed on the Exceptions list Website.)
  • Faculty, staff, and student employees should already have either keys or prox card access to enter buildings during these times.
  • Departments have authorized individuals who can request access or request a schedule change during this week before Fall Term. These individuals should contact FASS-IT to make these requests. (See below.)
  • No changes will be made to regular individual access, so anyone with existing access will still be able to access their normal locations.

Once again, the summer building locking schedule for locking most buildings changes to the regular school building schedule on Monday, September 30th at 7:00 A.M.

Authorized individuals may request exceptions to the locking procedure by meeting specific criteria listed in the procedure. Requests for exceptions can be submitted to FASS IT by calling 541-346-2245 or by emailing fass@uoregon.edu, providing as much advance notice as possible, and noting which exception criteria their situation(s) meets. FASS-IT will consult with UOPD for approval of exemptions.

UPDATE:
The concrete was poured today and will be drying over the weekend.  It is currently sectioned off to prevent accidental use.
The contractor will be back on Monday to remove the forms, opening it back up to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.  However, the concrete needs to continue to cure until next Friday, Sept. 20th, before vehicle/cart traffic will be able to use it.  Signage will be posted on Monday to this effect.

Scope:  Due to the removal of a large black walnut tree in the 1600 Millrace parking lot, and other tree work that will be in progress on the north side, the western half of the 1600 parking lot will be unavailable Friday 9/06/24

Services Impacted:

  • Parking spaces 5-10 and 11-18 will be occupied by tree work at 1600 Millrace.
  • Parking will be available in the lot to the north.
  • May interfere with trash pickup that day
