Scope:  The east elevator will not take passengers up to the upper floors but will still bring them down when called.  It will go to the ground and basement without any problems.  Otis has looked at it and we are waiting for service to be restored tomorrow, 12/21/22.

Services Impacted:  The east elevator is limited.

Special Instructions:  Please use the other nearby elevators or stairs.

Scope:  The landlord will be having McKenzie Roofing and Gutter on-site to clean gutters, replace a section of gutters, and to install gutter guards. The contractor will be using a lift on the west side near the motel to access the roof.

Services Impacted:  There may be noise outside of the building and on the roof as work is being completed.

12/20/22 Campus Planned Power Testing Unexpected Service Interruption

During island mode testing, we operated a seamless transition from the EWEB power grid to Island Mode.  However, at 11:09 am, while transitioning from Island Mode back to the main grid, we experienced an unexpected momentary glitch in the system.  We are now back on stable power and will have no further testing today.  We will continue to troubleshoot the system at a future date.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.  Please verify that your equipment is back up and operating as expected.

12/20/22 Campus Planned Power Testing

Scope:  Utilities and Energy (U&E) will start testing Island mode quarterly instead of annually. This emergency power system requires extensive service more often and complies with our service agreement with the turbine manufacturer. These tests will be during Spring break, Summer break, the annual September power testing, and Winter break. The next test will be December 20th, 2022. Most likely we will enter island mode throughout the day for testing with no exact timeframe.

Services Impacted:  This is a seamless power transition and we do not expect any impacts to campus power.

Special Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. The software on these machines can be negatively affected due to the power surge when the power is turned back on.  A power surge can corrupt the clone files in the machines and change preconfigured settings.

Scope:  Feeder 1 will be shut down to connect the HWTP Phase 2 Project to campus power.

Services Impacted:

  • This will affect main power and elevators, however these buildings will be on standby power during this time.
  • This will not impact Hayward Field.

UPDATE 12/15/22: 
Crews are continuing to work on the lines.  They expect to have the heating water restored to the building by noon on Friday, 12/16/22.  An update will be sent when the water has been restored.

 

UPDATE 12/9/22:
The start date for this shutdown has been moved to 12/14/22 and will finish 12/15/22.

Scope:  The heating system for the 3rd floor of Streisinger Hall will be shutdown for the installation of valve replacements

Services Impacted:  This will shut down the heating service to the 3rd floor and may affect the heating throughout the building.  The heat will be restored end of day on Wednesday, December 14th at 3:00 pm to mitigate the impact overnight if the work is not finished that day, then shutdown again Thursday, December 15th at 7:00 am if needed.

Scope:  Due to a failing steam flow meter and damaged steam expansion joint, the steam heat and hot water to the Student Recreation Center will be shutdown to affect repairs. The meter, expansion joint, and associated piping will be re-insulated after repairs. All work will take place in the tunnel and mechanical room 004.

Services Impacted:  This will affect the building heating systems and the domestic hot water.

Scope:  PLC 348 and 353 will be renovated into a single classroom

Services Impacted:  Most construction activity will be restricted to the interior of the two rooms however, some construction related noise can be expected in adjacent areas.  The bulk of the work will take place over the winter break, with less intrusive work continuing into the first weeks of winter term.

UPDATE 12/29/22:  Due to unexpected delays the completion date for this work is now scheduled for 1/6/23

Building Affected:  Lokey Education Restrooms #172, #173, #272, #273

Scope:  Due to the elevator modernization project, and associated ongoing construction, the first and second floor restrooms immediately adjacent to the elevator will be closed for the duration of Winter Break. In addition, the elevator will be out of service during this time.

Services Impacted:

  • Restrooms #172, #173, #272, #273 will be shut down.  Please see map below for nearby facilities in HEDCO.
  • The elevator will be offline.  Please use the stairs to the north of the elevator or by classroom 176.
