5/13/24 Parking Lots 10 and 12A Safety Exclusion Zone Closure Advisory

UPDATE:
This work has been completed as of 10:30 am.  The contractor has left, and all areas have been returned to normal service status per EHS and Transportation Services.

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected: Parking Lot 10, West portion of Parking Lot 12A, Adjacent sidewalks, East entrance to Lawrence Hall, North Entrances to Onyx Bridge and Cascade Annex East and West.

Scope: Clean Harbors, a contractor for Environmental Health and Safety, will be stabilizing a highly reactive material in preparation for disposal. The contractors’ work will occur within a 50-foot radius area in the west portion of Parking Lot 12A. The immediately adjacent area will be controlled as a safety exclusion zone by 7:00 am and is scheduled to be re-opened by 3:00 pm (see scale diagram below). Environmental Health and Safety staff will be on site for the activity, with UOPD staff available on-call. UO staff will control access along the sidewalk between Pacific and Cascade Halls while material is moved to the work site, ~8:00-9:00 am; this includes adjacent building and exterior pathway access points. Emergency egress from adjacent buildings will remain available, as will fire lane access for emergency response vehicles, but entry into the safety exclusion zone by non-emergency vehicles or pedestrians will be prohibited. Temporary vehicle barriers will be positioned across the affected area of Lot 12A and the connecting fire lanes. Temporary pedestrian barriers will be positioned across affected areas adjacent to the safety exclusion zones during the material movement phase.

Services Impacted:

  • Vehicle parking Lot 10 and a portion of Lot 12A will be unavailable, including several ADA spaces. Please contact transportation@uoregon.edu for temporary ADA accommodations.
  • All non-emergency vehicle traffic will be excluded.
  • Traffic signage will be posted on site.
  • Vendor deliveries will be re-directed to the Klamath and Streisinger loading docks.
  • Pedestrian traffic will be directed around the safety exclusion zone. The Stabilization Activity Exclusion Zone will be closed and staffed until Clean Harbors leaves the site. The Transport Activity Exclusion Zone will be closed and staffed ~8:00-9:00 am.
  • North entrance access to Cascade Annex East and West will be escorted.

4/23/24 Knight Library NE ADA Entrance Emergency Repair

5/14/24 – 7/11/24 CPFM Compound Main Vehicle and Pedestrian Gate Work Advisory

UPDATE 7/11/24:

The vehicle and pedestrian gates are now operational and ready for use.

  • The new gate is on a card reader system after hours (enter with card access through pedestrian gate, then push the button to operate the vehicle gate; exiting in vehicle will be automatic).  The other gates will continue to be padlocked. If your card isn’t already programmed into the pedestrian gate reader, please contact Work Control Center to request access (541-346-2319).
  • Per city requirement, a click2enter system will be in place for emergency vehicles.
  • The gate will be open during regular business hours.

 

UPDATE 7/08/24:

  • The new vehicle gate will be available for use once the temporary fencing has been removed.  This is expected to happen by the end of the day today.
  • The pedestrian gate is waiting to be programmed and should be completed by the end of the week.  An update will be sent when it is ready for use.

 

UPDATE 6/10/24:
Installation of new fence posts is scheduled for 6/12. Electrical and concrete forms for sidewalk on 6/13. Sidewalk pour scheduled for 6/14. Asphalt resurfacing to occur next week, date to be determined.  After which, the vehicle gate may be manually open to vehicle traffic – if the opportunity allows – while final wiring, programming, and testing take place. Once new fence panels are installed and construction site fencing is removed, closures will continue whenever work is occurring in or around the entrance. The pedestrian gate at the SE corner of the CPFM Administration building will continue to be the primary egress for pedestrians until the new pedestrian gate is fully operational.  The end date for this project has been extended to June 28th.

 

UPDATE 5/15/24:
The pedestrian gate by the SE corner of the CPFM Administration Quonset has been opened.  It is now keyed to the same gate key as the others.

Scope:  Construction associated with the replacement of the vehicle and pedestrian gates at the main entrance to the CPFM compound will begin May 14th and is scheduled to be completed June 12th 28th  July 12th.  The main entrance gates will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project.

Services Impacted:

  • All vehicle traffic into the compound will circulate clockwise around the Central Power Station.
  • Traffic signage will be posted on site.
  • Some areas of service vehicle parking within the compound will be unavailable.
  • The three parking spots in Lot 2, closest to the gate, will be closed.

Scope:  The Huestis Hall Deferred Maintenance Project is nearing final completion and the following is a list of upcoming work and impacts around the building:

  • March 13 – Mulching around the south and east
  • March 21 – Construction fencing will be removed on the south and east sides of Huestis Hall.
  • March 22 – April 5 – Construction fencing will remain in place around the Streisinger courtyard to allow for the following site activities:
    • The Coast Redwood tree removal. The growth habit of this tree species in the location poses a risk to infrastructure, property, and life.
    • Replanting, mulching, and landscape repairs in the courtyard and west walkway between Huestis and Willamette Halls.
  • March 25 – Construction trailer will be removed from the site on E. 13th Ave.
  • April 1 – 30 – Occupant move in activities
  • May TBD – Exterior art work installation on the exterior brick of the south stair tower

Harvey and Price will be here Monday, April 8th, for the full day, to address the broken 3” vent in the ceiling.  Noise is to be expected during the drilling and fastening of anchor points for the vent as it is properly supported to the wall.  This will then allow for the broken section to be removed and put back together.

Lewis Integrative Science Building Electrical Shutdown 2/15/24

UPDATE 9:38 am:
Please be advised that the electrical work has now been completed and all power has been restored. The Contractor, combined with E&U assistance, was able to make planning/coordination adjustments after the last notice was sent, which greatly improved the efficiency of the work. Thank you again for your understanding as we made these improvements, and for your support along the way.

Scope:  To perform final connections to newly installed electrical equipment, there will be a shutdown of the standby power, between 8:30 am and 9:00 am, and normal power from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Please let us know if there is critical work occurring during this time that cannot be interrupted, or if you have other concerns, and we can talk through it together.
And as always, thank you for working with us on this. We know these aren’t easy and we appreciate your support.

Services Impacted:  Normal power will be offline from 9:00 am to 11:00 am but operations should not be affected by standby power work.  Please plan accordingly for both power losses.

Special Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages.
