Scope:  As part of the Huestis Renovation project, the steam and condensate to the Zebrafish Facility in the basement of Huestis Hall will be offline. This will also require the shutdown of equipment LEF 1&2, AHU 1&2, Willamette Hall supply and exhaust fan to quarantine. Dish and rack washing will be affected and scheduled off during this period.

Services Impacted:  This will affect the heating systems, exhaust, HVAC air supply, and steam condensate.

Scope:  Due to annual maintenance on the Central Power Station’s clean steam generator, clean steam will be unavailable.  However, chemical treated steam will be bypassed to the pipeline during the generator maintenance.

1/25/23 CPFM Admin Quonset #136 and Surrounding Buildings Steam Heat Shutdown

The steam valve repair was completed ahead of schedule. The steam is now back on (11:45 am) to CPFM ADMIN and related Quonsets.

Services Impacted:  This will affect the building heating systems and the domestic hot water.

9/14/22 Campus Emergency Autoclave Steam Shutdown

S-2 has completed the repairs and the utility staff is slowly bringing steam up to pressure.
It is expected to be fully pressurized within the next 2 hours.

Scope:  Due to a leaking 16-inch main steam valve, the steam will be shut down to make an emergency repair in a section of steam piping.   Improvements to the utility steam metering at Cascade Hall will also occur during this outage.

Services Impacted:  There will be no steam heat or hot water during the shutdown. This should have little impact to most building users.

Please let us know asap if there is any critical research that needs assistance. The forecast shows sunny weather in the 70s those days. But this unusual cold weather has caused trouble with heating shutdowns this year.

Additional Notes:  Turning on and off the steam is very hard on the infrastructure serving our building’s mechanical systems.  Seasonal adjustments are based on the following format:

Steam is turned on in the Fall when:

  • Night-time outside air temperature is below 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND daytime temperatures are below 70 degrees for five consecutive days

Steam is turned off in the Spring when:

  • Night-time outside air temperatures are above 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND the daytime temperature is above 70 degrees for five consecutive days

5/13/22 – 12/31/22 Volcanology Steam Heat Shutdown

UPDATE:  The new  steam heat pipeline has been active since December.

 

UPDATE:  A walkthrough with contractors has been completed, we are now working through proposals, ordering parts, and setting up equipment to prepare for excavation in order to install a new pipeline and return heat to the building.  The timeline for completion is unknown at this time.

Carson Hall, Living Learning Center, Straub/Earl Utility Steam Shutdown 4/28/22 – 4/29/22

EMERGENCY UPDATE 4/29/22:
A pipe flange has cracked on the large steam pipe for Carson Hall.
Steam will be offline for Carson, Earl, and Straub until approximately 6:00 pm tomorrow evening.  Contractors are gathering the needed parts and will be making the repairs tomorrow.
(Steam has been restored for Living Learning Center and will not be affected by this shutdown.)

  • This will only affect the building heat and building hot water in Carson Hall, Straub Hall, and Earl Hall.
  • All of Living Learning Center will be on an alternate steam supply pipe and should not be affected.
