11/09/22 – 1/6/23 Area between Volcanology and Columbia Hall Excavation/Utility Work Advisory

UPDATE 11/29/22:

Due to some necessary engineering changes on this project the tentative completion date is now Friday, January 6th, 2023.  The steam will still be restored as scheduled after today’s work, 11/29/22 at 3:00 pm.

UPDATE 11/22/22:
Due to piping connections needing to be made as part of the emergency steam pipe repair project, steam service will be shut down on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022 from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm in Volcanology.
There will be no heat or hot water to the building for the duration of the work.
Steam service will be restored following its completion.

 

UPDATE 11/17/22:
S-2 Contracting will be performing core drilling, adjacent to Columbia Hall, as part of the Volcanology steam pipe emergency replacement project. They will begin work prior to building occupancy, starting at 7:00 am, and will be keeping noise to a minimum, as much as possible. The noise will be intermittent at times during the course of their work, but should not be at a level that will prevent normal operations.  They are expected to complete their task by 12:00 noon.

Services Impacted:  Fencing will be installed around the perimeter of the work area (shown as pictured) prior to the beginning of construction activities, which will restrict travel between the Volcanology building and Columbia Hall.

Special Instructions:  Please plan to take an alternate routes of travel during this time.

Scope:  A contractor will be performing mapping and excavation of underground utilities between the Volcanology Building and Columbia Hall, and then adjacent to Cascade Annex West.   Work is anticipated to occur outside Volcanology from 7:30am to 10:00am, then proceed to the Cascade Annex area for the remaining time.

Services Impacted:

  • During this work, travel along the adjacent sidewalk(s) will be blocked at times.  Please consider taking other paths of travel.
  • Medium level construction noise will be occurring during this time.

8/01/22 PLC Fire Alarm Noise Advisory

Scope:  A contractor will be performing work on the fire system Monday morning. This may cause fire alarms to sound.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

Building(s) or Area(s) Impacted:  McKenzie Hall 121-123, H121, H125, 111, 113, 115, and 116

Scope: During a recent flood in the mechanical room, ducts that provide ventilation to a portion of the first floor were damaged and cannot be re-used. New overhead ductwork and sprinkler piping to serve the classrooms and hallways shown will be installed.

Services Impacted:  We will be closing part of the SW section of McKenzie Hall to install new ductwork to classrooms 121-123 and the adjacent hallways H121 and H125. There will be no access to restrooms 111, 113, 115, and 116. Second floor rooms above the construction zone will experience light noise from work on first floor.
