12/13/22 – 12/15/22 Student Rec Center Steam and Hot Water Shutdown

Scope:  Due to a failing steam flow meter and damaged steam expansion joint, the steam heat and hot water to the Student Recreation Center will be shutdown to affect repairs. The meter, expansion joint, and associated piping will be re-insulated after repairs. All work will take place in the tunnel and mechanical room 004.

Services Impacted:  This will affect the building heating systems and the domestic hot water.

  • This will affect the heat and domestic hot water in both the North and South buildings.
  • Slight noise from grinding and odor from welding will occur.

10/26/22 Price Science Commons and Cascade Hall Discolored Water Advisory

Buildings Affected:  Price Science Commons and Cascade Hall

Scope:  Yesterday (Wednesday, October 26th) Price Science Commons and Cascade Hall experienced discolored water.  Facilities Services and EHS responded to attempt to identify the cause of the discoloration.  FS custodians flushed the potable water systems in both buildings overnight.

FS plumbers have investigated the points of connection for these 2 building and EHS performed another inspection this morning at 6:30am.  The results of the inspection identified probable iron sediment dislodge as part of the Huestis renovation project.

FS and EHS will continue to monitor the water and  respond to discoloration calls from the call log.

10/17/22 – 10/18/22 Lawrence Hall 106 and 107C Water Line Construction Activity Advisory

Begin:  Monday, October 17th, 2022 at 7:00 am

End:      Tuesday, October 18th, 2022 at 5:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Lawrence Hall rooms 106, 107C, and associated hallway

Scope:

  • A contractor will be both cutting and draining pipes, as well as core drilling within the Lawrence Hall office spaces shown as highlighted (see diagram below).
  • Core drilling will occur between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00 am on 10/17/22.  Construction noise will occur intermittently during this time.
  • While pipe draining occurs be advised that the contractor will be removing water from the space and a hose running to the nearest drain may be required.  The hose, if required, will be protected with cones and markers to isolate it’s run from general office traffic however, being aware of your surroundings during this time is encouraged.

Services Impacted:  No significant service interruptions are expected

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  South East Gerlinger parking strip. The flow meter will be tested after install. Water from testing will be directed to the street gutter and is not a concern.

Scope:  Due to a failed water meter, EWEB will be replacing the meter for Gerlinger Hall early Friday morning. There will not be any water outage. The meter bypass water pipeline will be active during the work.

Services Impacted:  There will be little to no impact to campus.

6/22/22 – 6/24/22 Cascade Hall, Price Science Library, Pacific Hall, Columbia, and Volcanology Steam Shutdown

Begin:  Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022 at 7:00 am

Scope:  Due to a leaking 16-inch main steam valve, the steam will be shut down to make an emergency repair in a section of steam piping.   Improvements to the utility steam metering at Cascade Hall will also occur during this outage.

Services Impacted:  There will be no steam heat or hot water during the shutdown. This should have little impact to most building users.

Please let us know asap if there is any critical research that needs assistance. The forecast shows sunny weather in the 70s those days. But this unusual cold weather has caused trouble with heating shutdowns this year.

The fire water line shutdown will still occur 5/14 as scheduled, however the domestic water shutdown has been rescheduled for next Saturday, May 21, due to delays in materials.  Willamette Hall will also be affected by the domestic water shutdown on Saturday, May 21st.

 

 

Fire Water Line:  Saturday, May 14th, 2022 from 7:00 am till 3:00 pm

Domestic Water Line:   Saturday, May 21st, 2022 from 7:00 am till 3:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Impacted:  Huestis Hall and Lokey Labs (and Willamette Hall 5/21)

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Hall Renovation project, the main domestic water line and fire water line will be shut down on Saturday for 8 hours.

Services Impacted:  All services that need water will be unavailable during this time. This could include lab equipment, HVAC building equipment, fire sprinkler systems, and restroom plumbing services.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.
