Evening everybody,
I’m another East Coast transplant, having spent my formative years in Lebanon, PA, before heading off to college at the University of Delaware. Most of my professional career has been spent in various project environments, so I’ve written everything from interdepartmental memos and project plans to training documents and reference manuals. On the side I’ve also served as a reviewer and editor for a music website, and even written an (extremely) ill-conceived comic book.
I moved to Portland in 2010 because I was told the hiking is fantastic (it is). In between hikes I took a few classes at PSU, where I learned about this program. Everything about it seemed like a great fit, so I threw together an application and—hey presto!—here I am.
As someone with an interest in consumer awareness and scientific communication, I can’t wait to see how we might be able to push that content using an integrated approach such as transmedia. I’m also keen to start a blog (something I’ve never done). Mostly, I’m thrilled to take another dive down the rabbit hole.
Hey Steven! I dove into the world of blogs not too long ago. Since I’m looking for a job in the communications field, I actually use my own personal blog as sort of an online portfolio for potential employers (I have a link to my blog on my resume so employers can get a sense of who and what I am). I’ve been keeping an eye on the traffic on it to help me figure out what is getting hits and what’s not, which is helpful.
Scott,
That was my eventual goal as well. In the meantime I figured it would serve wonderfully as a practice venue and a literary playground of sorts as I work through my musical back catalog. Out of curiosity, do you blog about anything and everything, or do you confine your blog to a specific subject?
Steven,
I am also a fellow hiker so I couldn’t agree with you more about how amazing Portland is for their hiking. I admire your willingness to explore a more integrated approach to journalistic storytelling. Science can oftentimes be very difficult information to grasp, so maybe interactive storytelling could offer a new approach for the future of multifaceted communicating.

Yes, I only moved to Western Oregon a year ago but I’ve been enjoying hiking as well. Have you had a chance to get out to Central/East Oregon? I just returned from a few days at the John Day Fossil Beds and I was blown away by how beautiful they are.
