Week #9 – Multimedia Midterm – Lauren Marie Paterson

Hello everyone! In light of our class focusing on the world of participatory media, I decided to go the same route with my midterm paper. Helen wanted me to share it this week in light of our theme of multi-disciplinary and multi-media projects. In order to make it more interesting and engaging, I tried to illustrate the concepts I was discussing throughout my paper by integrating multimedia ways to participate and explore the themes along the way. This worked best by actually formatting my paper into a blog entry, and presenting it to Helen in this way, online. I pulled from various scientific articles to further illustrate how youth culture is shaping the participatory world of politics, education, health, and many of our digital tools.

I realize we all have a lot going on this week for Thanksgiving, so if you have some time at all to look through and experience my “Multimedia Midterm,” I would love to hear what you think. In conjunction with this week’s theme and the discussion throughout my paper, here are some questions I would ask:

  1. Would sharing an academic paper online make you think even more about how the content is presented and structured?
  2. Can integrating visual and interactive elements break up the monotony of research or essay based content, making it more readable for an audience?
  3. What about interactivity and participatory forms of media do you think will work for presenting information as journalists and communicators in the future?

Thanks all! -L
