10/30/24 and 11/07/24 Lewis Integrative Science Building, Klamath Hall, Lokey Labs, Pacific Hall, and Huestis Hall Yearly Vacuum Pump Preventative Maintenance

UPDATE:
The maintenance work at Klamath Hall has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 7th, starting at 8:00 am.  The rest of the locations and times remain the same.

 

Begin:  Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 8:00 am

End:     Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 4:30 pm

Klamath:  Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 8:00 am till complete

Buildings Affected:  Lewis Integrative Science Building, Klamath Hall, Lokey Labs, Pacific Hall, and Huestis Hall

Scope:   The building lab vacuums, including the lab air compressor system at Klamath Hall, will be shut down to allow a contractor to perform preventive maintenance on the vacuum pumps and the lab air compressor. It is necessary to take the systems offline while the contractor is servicing the equipment.

Services Impacted:  This will affect all rooms and equipment connected to the building vacuum systems in LISB, Klamath Hall, Lokey Labs, Pacific Hall, and Huestis Hall, as well as the lab air compressor system at Klamath Hall.

6/28/24 Huestis Hall Lab Vacuum Pump System Shutdown

Begin:  Friday, June 28, 2024, at 7:00 am

End:      Friday, June 28, 2024, at 3:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Huestis Hall

Scope:  The lab vacuum pump system will be shut down to install a new fabricated muffler section to reduce noise and vibration transference through the vacuum duct work on levels 1, 2 and 3.

Services Impacted:  End users in Huestis Hall will not have lab vacuum service available at the turrets at lab benches and in fume hoods.

Special Instructions:  Fume hood sashes should be closed and containers within the fume hoods sealed prior to this date.

3/20/24 Pacific Hall Vacuum Pump Shutdown

Scope:   The lab vacuum pump system will need to be shut down to allow a contractor to perform a repair and complete preventive maintenance on the vacuum pump system located in the penthouse.  It is necessary to take the system offline while the contractor is performing work on the vacuum pumps.

Services Impacted:  This will affect all rooms and equipment connected to the building vacuum system in Pacific.

2/26/24 – 4/04/24 Klamath Hall Rooftop Vacuum Pump Emergency Shutdown

UPDATE 4/01/24:
The contractor received the part today for the rooftop vacuum pump repair.
This work is scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

 

UPDATE 2/29/24:
Due to a failed valve, the vacuum pump will be down longer than expected.  Because parts are no longer available for this system, a contractor is researching a solution.  An update will be sent at a later date.

End:      Unknown    Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 4:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Klamath Hall

Scope:  The rooftop vacuum pump has been shut down for an emergency repair and is expected to be down for a couple of days.  An update will be sent when it has been restored to service.

Services Impacted:  The vacuum pumps on the 2nd floor will be affected, but it is unknown exactly which ones.

10/09/23 Klamath Hall Chilled Water, Supply Airflow, and Electrical Outage

UPDATE 10/09/23:
Please be aware the hallway lighting will be losing power during the shutdown and will be returning when the shutdown ends.

 

UPDATE 9/29/23:
Additionally, in order to perform the work, and for safety, the steam supply to the building will be isolated.  This could possibly result in lower ambient temperatures within the building but no significant fluctuations are expected.

 

UPDATE 9/22/23:
The previously proposed  shutdown for 9/18/23 has been shortened and the date has been adjusted.  It will now be occurring on 10/9/23 between the hours of 7:00 am and 11:30 am.

Primary building contacts have been contacted, the associated effects of this work have been discussed, and accommodations are being planned for. Should you have considerations you do not feel have been addressed, please reach out to @Damon Rutherford to discuss them.

Scope:  As part of improving overall building exhaust flows, a main electrical panel must be disconnected, and upgraded, in order to tie in new exhaust fan equipment.

Services Impacted:  During this work, several pieces of equipment will be out of service, most notably the chilled water and supply airflow. A more detailed list is attached for your reference.

Special Instructions:  Prior to this date, please close fume hood sashes and seal containers within the fume hoods, including the 3rd floor fume hoods.

UPDATE:  We were informed that this was previously restored.

Scope:  The vacuum pump has been offline, and a contractor has been on site to investigate.  A damaged part was found, and a replacement part has been ordered.  The contractor hopes to have it installed early next week.  An update will be sent when we have more information.

Services Impacted:  Building vacuum pumps are out of order.
