Scope:  The Lab space will be remodeled, to include the installation of a glove box, a sputtering machine, and gas piping, as well as electrical and HVAC modifications.  Construction mobilization begins in December, demolition in early January, with major construction activities in February and March.

Services Impacted:  Construction noise and activity can be expected with occasional planned mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system shutdowns in and around room 012B.

Scope:  Labs 009 and 012B will be remodeled:

  • October – November – A new Glove Box will be installed in Lab Room 009.
  • November – January – A new Glove Box and other equipment will be installed in Lab Room 012B.

Services Impacted:

  • October – November – Minimal to no impact to the building or users is expected.
  • November – January – Work is expected to be more disruptive, additional notices will be sent out as construction activities commence.

Scope:  The rooms listed above will be remodeled. This includes new insulation, sheetrock, painting, new flooring, new lighting, minor HVAC and plumbing modifications.

Services Impacted:

  • Occasional noise and odors typical to construction can be expected.
  • At some point, still TBD, there will need to be a water shutdown and possibly HVAC airflow.

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Portland Gymnasium

Scope:  The Gymnasium Improvement Project includes:

  • Basement level – upgrading vertical access from grade to basement, updating basement restrooms for all user access, adding changing rooms, shower rooms, lockers, new drinking fountain with bottle fill, updating/refreshing the weight room.
  • First floor – new drinking fountain with bottle fill, updating/refreshing the main lobby.
  • General building – new hot water heater.

Services Impacted:

  • Facilities staff located in the basement will not be able to use the stairs or areas where cordoned off for scheduled construction.
  • Users of the first-floor gym will still have access.
  • There will be no hot water in the building due to the scheduled plumbing work.
  • A portion of the east/west sidewalk at south side of building and a portion of the parking spaces at south side of building will be affected.

Scope:  A remodel for the Museum of Natural and Cultural History is occurring in Agate Hall. This includes the installation of walls and doors, HVAC equipment, as well as plumbing and cabinets in Room 126.

Services Impacted:  Anticipate noise for the duration of the project. Standard construction equipment will be used periodically throughout the day.

Scope:  The north wall of room 276B is being removed.

Services Impacted:

  • Plumbing piping needs to be re-routed from Room 190-276B.
  • Waste piping from Room 375C will be temporarily shut down in May.
  • Loud concrete drilling will happen during plumbing work.
  • Normal construction noise is to be expected.
  • New paint and flooring installation may have minimum smell.

12/19/24 Johnson Hall Fire Sprinkler System Shutdown

Scope:  Due to the installation of a fire sprinkler head in the Office of General Counsel remodel, the fire sprinkler system will be shut down to complete the work.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

Special Instructions:  If there are questions regarding emergency evacuation, please visit Emergency Management & Continuity, https://safety.uoregon.edu/evacuations.

UPDATE 11/19/24:
The work on the fire sprinkler heads has been rescheduled for Monday, November 25th.

 

UPDATE 11/14/24:
Scope: The fire alarm system will be temporarily shut down on Tuesday, November 19 starting at 7:00 am for Swinerton to relocate some fire sprinkler heads in rooms 219-221. The work is expected to take a few hours, and the system will be reactivated once work is complete.

UPDATE 11/01/24:
Demolition of clay tile will be occurring November 5th – 8th, from 5:00 am to 9:00 am.  There will be considerable noise during these hours.

 

UPDATE 10/24/24:
A temporary wall is being constructed on the south side of room #206 on Monday, October 28th, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.  It will remain in place for the duration of the project.

 

UPDATE 9/26/24:
The construction start date has been adjusted to Monday, October 21.  The completion date is still planned for March 31, 2025.

Services Impacted:  During this time, there will be various disruptions due to the construction, including impacts to rooms 202, 207, and 217.
