WGS is seeking volunteers to help facilitate programming for a field trip of local 5th grade students.
The field trip will be on the UO campus on Thursday, May 24th from ~9:30 am – 12 noon. We will be hosting four 5th grade classes (about 115 students). We will have 4 different stations for the students to go through with the overarching theme being “States of Matter”. Each station should take about 20 minutes for students to complete.
We are looking for 12-15 volunteers! No prior experience necessary! If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the volunteer interest form by May 4 at 5 pm.
Station activities include a desalination experiment, non-newtonian liquids/quick sand exploration, mixing and testing the pH of common liquids, and exploring CO2 as a liquid, solid, and gas. If you would like to be a station leader, please let us know.
Note: The University of Oregon is implementing new rules about individuals who work with minors. As volunteers you will all need to watch a short (25 min) video and email WGS at uowgs@uoregon.edu once you have for record keeping purposes. If you have already watched this video, please make note of that in your volunteer form – you do not need to re-watch it.
