Reflections on Learning Goals

1. Learn more about how to design things on the computer for marketing purposes.

I definitely learned more about how to design pieces for marketing. Taking this class allowed me to expand the elements of design beyond the theatre and into designing logos and posters, etc. Also, through having some private instruction, I was able to expand my knowledge of ways to make even something I wasn’t entirely sure about come to life and be effective.

2. Be able to use tech well enough to organize and manage information.

Learning about tech that is free on the internet like Trello is really going to help me in the future to manage my projects. I’m already incorporating it and other programs into my life on the regular. I have had a hard time in the past trusting programs on the internet, but now I’ve learned that they are basically the way of the future. Using internet apps have really helped me keep and consolidate my information. Now, I have just a few programs with all of my information that I need to access with more than just one device at my disposal. On top of that, if I have pieces of info that I need to keep from being erased, I have more than one way to keep them safe.

3. I would like to learn how to communicate more effectively with design.

This one was tricky. It took awhile to decide what is most necessary to include in marketing and when to include it, but after discussion in class it became obvious. However, it is not only what information is included, but how it is shown. Making the most important information the most easy to see and allowing the elements of design to guide the viewer through the information is the most useful thing I learned about communicating effectively. My vocabulary was also expanded and now I feel more capable in terms of communicating what I want to printers and to others about design and marketing.

4. I would like to be more familiar with different kinds of software than what I’m used to.

In class we learned a lot about internet programs and a couple different design programs. There was a steep learning curve. Learning about how to operate different programs on the internet opened me up to multiple ways of keeping track of information and creating different pieces of art. While being able to trust that my information is safe. We learned about Adobe Illustrator and InDesign both are design programs and both deal with what they do differently. Learning the difference between a vector program and others was very interesting.
