Portfolio: Buffy Analysis

Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-TV-Series

The assignment this week was to study the aspects of horror films and show how they are used to entertain us even through the fear that they bring. This section of the assignment was to analyze an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The scene that I chose I then started to analyze based on the aspects of mise-en-scene. This is a film term that breaks down the elements of the scene into different points, such as, “I prefer Kawin’s inclusion of camera placement because the position can transform the way audiences see the pro-filmic event and will include sound in the following as most films we deal with are not silent” (Lacey). The placement of the camera and how it affects the story was one of the points that I talked about specifically in this post.

In my post I made mention of this technique, stating, “The room spreads out behind the two men, but light falls away not hitting anything of importance it seems outside of these two men.” In this post I was able to analyze the show for more than just the horror, it was also an analysis of the elements of the technique used to create the scene.
