Portfolio: Spirituality

TheSpiritualPath

The assignment here was to respond to the reading that was given to us this week. The reading was a lesson on spirituality and how it can be connected to the creative mind. Going back over the reading one line stood out to me again, “To see deeply and to understand are different from mere looking and observing” (Grey p. 71, 2001). I wanted to incorporate this idea into my assignment, and at the same time respond to the rest of the reading that I did not agree with as much.

In my response I wrote, “To me this is almost like saying there is no ability in humans to understand emotion or beauty, which it can only come from an outside influence.” The term understanding is important to the idea of spirituality. I went on to discuss how the way the author described artists was incorrect to me, and then developed a well reasoned argument using specific wording from the reading. I chose this piece for my portfolio because I thought that the idea of spirituality and creativity is important to the overall idea of art.
