Week 5 Updates

Hey everyone!

Did you all enjoy the candy fest and free buttons at the meeting last night? 😀 The winning candy that’s being served at Japan Night is the Strawberry Cream candy. Also, don’t forget to thank Cheryl, one of our fabulous designers, for the amazing buttons! Thanks, Cheryl! 😀

I’ve got a couple important reminders from last night’s meeting. First, it’s still not too late to update your Facebook status to advertise our weekly meetings. If you do, you can look forward to some free candy from Zach in the future. You’ll also be entered into our gift card raffle.

You can also sign up to hand out flyers and advertise meetings and Japan Night in your classes as well.

Next! The first week of Spring Term will mark the start of our Spring Term Film Series. This is an awesome event we’ve done every year that I’ve been in JSO. Each week (I believe on Thursday) we show a Japanese film in Mills International Center. We provide yummy snacks and do a small presentation about the film. It’s open to anyone and everyone, and best of all it’s free! I also think it’s a great way for us JSO members to chill and bond a little after our hectic Japan Night prep during Winter.

Next week we’ll be talking more in depth about the film series, so if there is a Japanese film you love or have been dying to see, come with the title to share! After we narrow down our choices and vote for the final 10, we’ll be splitting up into small groups to prepare the mini-presentations for each week. The presentations are extremely casual, so don’t be nervous! We usually give a short summary and share interesting information about the cast or cultural aspects of the film. We get to make a Power Point presentation as well! Films we’ve shown in the past include Ponyo, Linda! Linda! Linda!, Always: Sunset on Third Street, and Paprika.

Lastly, we’ve a schedule for the week of Japan Night. On March 6th (Tuesday) from 6 to 9 PM we’ll hold a dry rehearsal in the EMU Ballroom. This is our chance to check out the stage setup and run through the show with our performers. On March 10th (Japan Night!), the Food Group will start the epic cooking marathon at 10 AM. At 12 PM, decoration will begin, and at 4:30 PM we’ll have our final run-through before the show starts that evening.

That’s all from me at the moment! If you guys have any questions, feel free to post them on our Facebook page or shoot an email to Zach.

Enjoy the weekend!
