Week 6 Updates

Hey gang!

Yesterday I learned that there are a lot more movie genres than I ever knew…

After our brainstorming session at yesterday’s meeting, we came up with a fantastic (and long) list of possible themes and genres for our movie series next term! At our meeting next week, we’ll be voting and narrowing it down a bit. Here’s what we have right now!

  • Disaster (like Godzilla)
  • Documentary
  • Funny Romance (like Shall We Dance?)
  • Historical
  • Kurosawa
  • Live-Action
  • Miyazaki (like Spirited Away)
  • Music[als] (like Linda, Linda, Linda!)
  • Occupation (like Stray Dog)
  • SciFi/Robots
  • Silly Horror (like The Great Yokai Wars)
  • Slice of Life (like Tanpopo)
  • Sports (like Waterboys)
  • Superhero
  • Surreal (like Paprika)
  • Tragedy (like Grave of the Fireflies)
  • Western Retells

Quite the choices! Be thinking which themes you want to see in our movie series. After we choose our themes, we’ll choose movies and then split up into groups. As a reminder, each movie group will do a small presentation and bring snacks for their week! The film series is Spring term on Thursday nights.

Next order of business! Volunteering and tabling. Because basically everyone in JSO will be busy during Japan Night, we need some hard-working volunteers! If you have any friends who are interested, please help them get in contact with Zach or you can take down their information for them. If they volunteer for 4 hours, they’ll get a free tshirt. To get a free ticket, they’ll need to volunteer for 6 hours. Speaking of shirts, they’ll be arriving around March 5th.

During Week 9, JSO will be taking over the EMU with our Japan Night promotion tables! We’ll be running from 12 – 5, Monday through Friday of that week. If you’re free during any of that time and want to help out, you can sign up at our next meeting. We’ll be advertising for Japan Night as well as taking names for volunteers.

And lastly! Don’t miss out on the exciting Week 7 meeting where we make utensil packets for Japan Night! Maybe we can convince Zach to play funny videos while we stuff bags with chopsticks.

Enjoy the weekend! Anyone going to the Asian Celebration? 😀 If so, see you there!
