Reflection:

For this assignment we were supposed to think of words to describe what it means to be an artist.  I thought I came up with a good list encompasses what an artist is.  When we did this topic on remixes we also talked a lot about copyrights and remixing of songs.  I have actually learned a lot about remixes and what is allowed and what isn’t because of a previous class I took at the University of Oregon.  Basically if an artist is going to use someone else’s track  for a remix that artist will have to pay the original artist royalties.  I think that remixes shouldn’t really be considered art because the artist are taking original music and using it.  The artist didn’t come up with the music on their own, so I honestly think there should be stricter punishments for copyrighting and remixing.

I decided to choose this assignment because it was fun and creative to come up with words that would describe an artist.  I think that this was one of my favorite assignments and I was able to learn how to make collages on Picasa, which can be useful later on.  I also chose this assignment because of the topic of remixes and how music has been taking a turn for the worse.  A lot of music coming out now are remixes, and people aren’t creating original music anymore, which is sad to see.

Future Intentions:

I think for the future I will continue to try and develop words that will describe an artist.  I think some of the words I have kind of have the same meanings as other words I chose, so a list of all different words would be something I would be happy with.  I think also for the future I will continue to try and analyze music, and hopefully see the age of remixes die, and artist coming up with original pieces again.  All this technology is giving artist the opportunity to remix songs with people not really realizing that the song isn’t an original.
