Nonprofit Management

Fundraising

This course presented the fundamentals of fundraising for organizations dependent on donated revenue.  Developing resources for nonprofit organizations might appear to be a straightforward task of asking the right sources in the community for support.  However, the field of fundraising is complex and multifaceted, requiring everyone in the nonprofit organization to be at least tangentially involved in development.  Through readings, discussions, and first-hand research on nonprofit development techniques, students learned basic fundraising skills necessary for developing the systems and resources to allow a nonprofit organization to grow and thrive in a competitive environment.

By completing this course, students are able to:

  • Evaluate development practices in an organization and design a fundraising strategic plan that is appropriate for the organization’s resource base.
  • Evaluate, design, and/or improve the following development systems for an organization: annual giving, major gift solicitation, prospect research and planned giving.
  • Write compelling and persuasive print and electronic development communications.
