Job description:
Hourly Wage: $ 11.25+/hr
Hours: This position is an academic year commitment with a schedule of 6-15 hours per 2 weeks. The majority of hours are spent leading trips; other hours involve fluctuating, independent tasks outside of the office, tabling and promoting explOregon during events, and a minimal amount of office work.
The International Student and Scholars Services (ISSS) Department in the Division of Global Engagement (DGE) is looking to hire 2-5 new explOregon trip leaders. The explOregon trip leader will work closely with the explOregon program coordinator, manager, PR Communication Coordinator, and the diverse team of student staff. The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) unit within the Division of Global Engagement administers the explOregon program that provides opportunities for social integration for all students and scholars through trips and social activities. Responsibilities:
The trip leaders will work closely and purposefully as part of the explOregon Leadership Team, responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive trip and social/cultural integration program. The explOregon Leadership Team will consist of ISSS staff, explOregon coordinators, and trip leaders. A trip leader’s responsibilities are the following:
• Lead and guide week-end trips, day trips, locally and throughout the region;
• Assist in development of programming, including event creation, development, and promotion;
• Assist in marketing the program through presentations, tabling, and social media;
• Conduct pre-trip/event preparation and prepare post-trip feedback;
• Promote and represent explOregon and ISSS in a positive and professional manner;
• Ensure overall physical and emotional safety, health and experience during trips;
• Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies;
• Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings;
• Interact with a mix of domestic and international students and scholars;
• Have the understanding and preparation of working with a large population of international students;
• Lead groups of 5 to 50 students with a team on day trips;
• Provide quality customer service;
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be a current UO graduate or undergraduate student
• Experience with coordinating or leading groups of individuals
• Familiarity with campus and community resources and services
• Comfortable with presenting in front of both small and large groups
• Self-motivated, flexible, and detail-oriented
• Strong task and time management skills, and the ability to handle a wide range of responsibilities assigned
• Ability to use verbal and written communication effectively and creatively
• Ability to work well with students of diverse backgrounds and nationalities
• Ability to work well as a group member and independently
• A positive attitude and strong sense of responsibility
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with people from diverse cultures
• Strong leadership and group facilitation skills
• Ability and willingness to drive a 12-passenger van for 2 hours or more
• Valid Driver’s License
• Familiarity with campus social networks, including Facebook and Twitter, and student organizations
• International study, work, volunteer and/or travel experience
• Experience working with non-native speakers
• Work-study is preferred but not required
• Comfortable with filming footage on trips with GoPro and/or smart phone

Job description:

The International Student and Scholar Services unit within the Division of Global Engagement administers services and programs for exchange and sponsored students. This includes oversight of their admission, correspondence with exchange partners and sponsoring agencies, as well as various UO academic and administrative units. In addition, the International Student and Scholar Services unit is responsible for managing the immigration, financial, and advising function for these students. The assistant will work closely and purposefully with the Coordinator of Exchange and Sponsored Students Programs to maintain the day-to-day operations of sponsored and exchange student programs by:
• Assisting with application materials, files, and correspondence with UO departments as well as with contacts at institutes in the U.S. and abroad;
• Helping coordinate the annual mailing of updated UO materials to exchange partners and sponsoring agencies;
• Assisting with questions from exchange and visiting applicants via email;
• Responsible for advocating for exchange and visiting student class schedules by contacting UO departments to clear the student for pre-requisites courses;
• Responsible for maintaining exchange and visiting social media platforms and exchange informational blog;
• Using and maintaining a database associated with assigned responsibilities;
• Providing support for programs aimed to engage UO students and departments with projects enhancing diversity;
• Providing support for special International Students and Scholar Services programs aimed to support international visitors.
