GEO Scholarship News: December 2019

GEO is proud to support broad access to its programming and is committed to funding a wide range of scholarships to help make that possible. The recent launch of the GEO Center Scholarship, available to students attending GEO programs in the UK, Spain, Italy and France, in the Spring Semester or Spring Quarter of 2020, drew great interest, and our goal is to continue offering multiple awards of $3,000-$5,000 in 2021 as well.

The applicants for our Spring Semester GEO Ambassador and GEO Center scholarships made up a competitive pool, and we are excited to announce that recipients from each partner institution who applied were selected and the overall award rate was 70% for this cycle. We would like to congratulate the students and their advisors from the following partner institutions:

  • Alma College
  • Pacific Lutheran University
  • University of Portland
  • Wabash College
  • Western Oregon University
  • Willamette University

The annual application cycle for the GEO Map Your Future scholarship, a $1000 planning scholarship reserved for freshmen and transfer students in their first year, also closed this week, and we look forward to sharing news of the recipients of that scholarship and the Spring Quarter Center scholarships and GEO Ambassador scholarships in the first quarter of 2020. The January newsletter will also see the launch of a new series which will focus on the projects and stories of GEO scholarship recipients and their adventures abroad – we can’t wait to share these with you in the new year!
