ELAN is excited to welcome Sarah Turner as our new Co-Chair for the 2013/2014 academic year!
Sarah has joined the Arts and Administration program after recently moving from Virginia. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Lynchburg College in History with minors in Museum Studies and Gender Studies. During her undergraduate career, Sarah worked at the Daura Gallery, an academic museum on the Lynchburg College campus and held several internships at the Lynchburg Art Club, Inc. and the historic Lynchburg Museum. This summer, she will be completing an internship at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art by working on the Time Based Art Festival in performance art programming.
While at the University of Oregon, Sarah has worked on a concentration in Community Arts and a Museum Studies Certificate. Her research interests include participatory and community engagement programming at urban art centers. During her first year, Sarah received a Laurel Award at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art where she assisted curators in developing exhibition text and research. She also worked with the Center for the Study of Women in Society by holding the position of lead curator of the exhibition “Women’s Lives, Women’s Stories.” In May 2013, Sarah attended the American Alliance of Museums Conference as an AAM Fellow.
