Professional Development

ELAN’s core mission strives to aid our student body and community by engaging in professional development opportunities that will increase the capability for our community members to become the future leaders and innovators of the arts sector.

Throughout the academic year, ELAN hosts a variety of events, forums, and other community gatherings that aid in the professional development of the University of Oregon’s artist and arts administration community. Annually, these events include Creative Conversations in October, Beats & Brushstrokes during Winter term, and our ArtsVenture excursion during Spring term, among events specific to a given year. To learn more about our upcoming events, please visit our events page.

Outside of ELAN’s programming, we encourage you to follow the organizations below and support them through annual membership.

Americans for the Arts (Colleague Membership = $50/year)
American Association of Museums (Student Membership = $50/year)
Association of Arts Administration Educators (Student Membership = $30/year)
Association of Fundraising Professionals (Student Membership = $50/year)
Association of Teaching Artists (Apprentice Level = $25.00)
Arts Action Fund (Free Membership)
National Alliance for Media Art + Culture (Student Membership = $40/year)
National Arts Education Association (Student Membership = $35.00)

In addition to these organizations, look for local arts agencies, non-profit organizations, and art spaces in your local community that you can support through membership, volunteer work, and event attendance!

HOW TO SUBMIT A BLOG POST

Let’s face it, the arts is a vast field covering many genres and areas of administration, and we do know that you have a very particular interest in the arts – what we’d call an expertise. Here’s your opportunity to say something about it! Writing for the ELANblog is an excellent way for you to share the nuggets of knowledge you have (and your experience) to a local, state, and nationwide audience. Have you recently attended a conference? Just finished coordinating an event for your organization? We would love to read about it!

To submit a ELANblog proposal, please provide the following:

  • Your name, email and professional affiliation (i.e. UO student, Program Coordinator, etc.)
  • A title for your post
  • A summary of your topic in no more than 150 words

Guidelines for ELAN Blog Postings:

  • Provide a brief three-sentence biography (include your name, professional title, a brief professional background, field of interest, and a headshot photo of yourself)
  • Post must be kept between 500-700 words
  • Provide at least two post related images as separate attachments
  • Topic must be relevant to the field of arts/arts administration.
