In response to a call for a national Earth Day-2017 March for Science in Washington, DC and local Marches throughout the US, a 22-April-2017 rally was held on the UO’s Memorial Quadrangle, followed by a peaceful march to the Federal Building in downtown Eugene. Organizations sponsoring this nationwide event included the American Geophysical Union, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and many others.
The roughly two thousand marchers in Eugene heard speeches by LCC Physics Professor & Dean of Science, Paul Ruscher; UO Chemistry & Biochemistry Professor Jeffrey A. Cina; and US Representative Peter DeFazio.
