After a very constructive first term review panel which focused on the program and how it fits into the spaces provided in the building, the final term began with a reconsideration of the administrative side of the ASHC. I studied how I wanted the studio spaces to function cohesively with the administrative offices, class rooms, and production labs. The two story framed opening which penetrate through the wing became the basis for the wings design. The frames move along the east-west axis until they reach the phytoremediation filter where they angle towards the South West as they continue along. The frames allowed for view both into the studios from the exterior and from the studios out.
]In the production lab building, the rigid steel frame was modified onto a more efficient grid and was doubled in the area below the tower cranes reach where student projects would be dropped onto the rooftop. The rooftop itself was modified by detaching the main access stair from the building, adding a foundation system for the homes, and a new path which brings visitors through the green roof and 315 panel solar array.
The final review was very positive and we discussed the prospects of the buildings program in particular as well as much of its design. The reviewers appreciated the updated design for the administrative wing and mentioned that it managed to be clean and highly designed while still maintaining an industrial feel. They also appreciated the buildings ability to expand with the program and the uniqueness of the process of home construction and inhabitation on the roof of the building.
