Progress update
This term started with a major redesign of the overall scheme, transitioning from an awkward, inefficient plan to a much more regulated, and still inefficient, plan. This inefficiency is intentional, with most of my recent work exploring my thesis topic. Specifically, this term was an exploration into the definition of a urban ecology, and what that can look like. What is necessary, what species are in danger, and what impact might this have on urban architecture? My thinking stems from philosophies explored by Sean Lally, James Corner, and Brook Muller. All three of these writers rethink the urban fabric in a way that most planners have not considered until now: how can we intertwine the built environment with the natural one?
My project this term has tried to approach this question directly, and my work to this point has been centred around this new idea of the city and the environment.
Tom, thanks for posting this lovely synopsis and powerful image.
