Portland Midterm Reflection

In this review, I have presented a few perspective sketches of the launching ramp, which is the most special place in this building and the main entrance of the structure. The floor plans are not yet developed too detail yet, so I will work more on that next. The locations of the programs are set in their places, and I will design the circulation that works with these program in a more logical way. 

Comments/ Suggestions:

  • Step backward, do not go into details too much first, try to focus on discovering. 
  • Keep on doing experiment with the fabric and discover more possible form and shapes
  • Incorporate these shapes with the program 
  • Look more into the production of boats, try to reflect it on the plan of the building i.e. the manufacturing should affect how the building looks
  • Discover more possibility of the material wood, bending, lofting. 
  • Rethink the carving of river channel, instead of inviting water into the site, perhaps poking structure into the river will be better
  • Make use of the force of wind, try to use wind as part of the building, education purpose
