Music Response: Step Out

Step Out by Jose Gonzales is an anthem of sorts, full of peaks and valleys that drive a sensation of rising, movement, and the experience of standing on the precipice. The collage I created is a response to this. Taking and exaggerated form of the sound pattern from the song, I reflected a concocted mountain scape across a horizon line from a city skyline (New York to be exact). The result is a feeling of movement and, more importantly, transformation from one plane to the next.

Music Collage

The entry sequence reflects the same qualities as the collage by contrasting differing ideals across an entry plane. A grid of raw timber beams is arrayed along one sector, growing in volume as they ascend. Lights at both their base and peak exaggerate their rhythm. Opposite the grid is a hardscaped plain which opposes the grid while still maintaining its datum. Cold and rigid, this directly opposes it counterpart.
