The three stages of the mold growth is:

1. Center 2. Spread the Root 3. Growth

Based on the stages, I propose this way to achieve the goal of Green Loop in the year of 2040.

First, we need to finish up the connection of the existing river front green belt. This is important factor for the green loop in a bigger picture. With the increasing demand for connecting with the water and nature and the ability to access such places, we must first finish the loop of the green belt. This will be a huge attraction for people around the city to engage in the public realm and grow a deeper attachment to the community.

Second, The Net. This is the second stage we have to set up for the Green Loop to grow successfully in the future. The Net is like the loot that mold spreads out-the more area it covers, the more nutrition it can gain from the growth later. The spread of The Net allows direct connection from smaller neighborhood to walk to the Green Belt, thus increasing the exposure of the street usage, helping the street shops to populate the street for more pedestrian friendly environment.

Third, Identify the Green Loop. In Phase 3b, the Green Loop were extended to include the Southern Triangle and South Water Front. The District were identified with seven different colors, each with its unique characteristics and neighborhood. With such diversity, the city will then encourage regional empowerment that bring out the finest quality of each district, creating seven very unique district that intertwine with one another.

After each district find their own unique characteristic, they can then start to work on connecting the Green Loops piece by piece. Decoration on the Loop allows them to showcase the quality and pride that each district are proud of, with the cooperation of each district, the North, Central, and South Green Loop are looking forward to be finished in sections by the hand of residences in each district. Like decorating your house with Christmas lights, this is the idea to support each district also to provide a meaningful reason for visitors and locals to use the Loop with more options.

Phase 5, 2040. The Green Loop is expected to be finished and fully connected both to the Green Belt Water Front to each District. Upon the completion, the Green Loop will now support all districts, creating a complete “Portland Made” experience for generations to come.

*The file was later updated at 02/01/2016 to remove the extension of South Green Loop and stayed with the original GL plan.
