Metaphor, the Structure of the City
The metaphor is an impression of the City of Porland, and how I see the city were construct and how it looks like right now.
The Wood Joint project allows me to connect different part together, some lose, some tie, and it represent how the infrastructure of Portland supports the architecture, and how the connection can be lose when new communities are formed, while the communities with history are tie to the infrastructure. The strings are used to show a more complicated layer of human interaction and how individuals connect from one another through a complex relationship.
Goal, objective, question, & resources.
Goal: Develop the site with the taste and culture of Portland, so it may become part of the city instead of individual entity.
Objective: With the focus in traffic infrastructure, the high and dynamic capacity mixed-used projects should help revitalize life style around the industry.
Question: How do we transfer the industrial site into mixed-used while preserving the taste of industry? How do we create a friendly environment around the industrial area that welcomes most of the general public instead of just the work force.
Resources: The city of Portland has a lot of data from the previous planning studies. Those can be helpful tools for me to analyze the site further.
