2022 Greek Excellence Awards

On Wednesday, May 11th we celebrated Greek achievements. This year, we presented the 1st winners of the FSL Chapter of the Year Cups with the top rated Fraternity and Sorority  each receiving a huge trophy cup to display for the year. In addition, the winning Fraternity and Sorority will be forever immortalized in the FSL office on a plaque with their chapter name and the year they won it all. Also, it was our pleasure to announce the 4 chapter winners of the FSL Spring Game Attendance Awards (you read that right, the top 2 Fraternities and the top 2 Sororities all won jerseys with their chapter name on the back!). Tyler and Alexander were on hand from UO Football to announce the results and encourage a continued partnership with the Greek community. Our IFC and PHC Executive Council did a great job presenting the winners. A big special thanks to our Director Caitlin Roberts for hosting the event and for all her hard work (and presenting skills!).

Spring Game Attendance Awards

A couple weeks ago we got to see our Ducks take the field in Autzen in our first spring game with Coach Dan Lanning. Coach Lanning understands the value of fraternity and sorority membership, and how important Greek support is for the football program. He personally invited the chapter presidents to spread the word and get as many FSL members as possible to the spring game. We had an amazing turnout! FSL and UO Football are looking forward to hosting another competition in the fall to get even more of you to a game. The winners of the Spring Game competition won a photoshoot with members of the Ducks coaching staff, a tour of the football facility, and their very own Ducks jersey with their chapter name on the back. We appreciate all of you who came out to the game and showed up representing FSL.
The winners of the Spring Game Competition are:

The Standards of Excellence

The Standards of Excellence program at University of Oregon aims to challenge the fraternity & sorority community and its’ membership to live up to the common ideals upon which our organizations were founded. Knowing that individual member’s and chapter’s actions reflect on all fraternity & sorority members at Oregon and nationwide, our community can only be as strong as its’ weakest link. The Standards of Excellence program will challenge all Oregon fraternity and sorority members to have integrity – steadfast adherence to the oaths we took as we make lifelong commitments to our respective organizations. In the end, the goal of the Standards of Excellence is simple: As members of fraternities and sororities, we should be better for our affiliation, the campus improved for our involvement and the greater community enhanced for our contribution.

Membership Development

The Membership Development section of Standards of Excellence captures pieces of Fraternity and Sorority involvement that contribute to the growth of individual members. Membership development should be a focus for all chapters, and chapters should use this section to demonstrate how the membership experience in their organization provides opportunity for individual and collective growth. Membership Development is comprised of Academic Achievement, Member Orientation & Education, and Leadership Development. Recognition for Membership Development goes to:
Kappa Alpha Theta
Sigma Nu

It is the obligation of each chapter to provide a safe environment and to respect the rights of others. Her nominator praises her ability to step up and help in any capacity, and says, “She exemplifies an incredible sorority woman. She maintains a high GPA and academic excellence. Outstanding Chapter Presidents

These awards recognize Chapter Presidents who demonstrate outstanding leadership, motivational ability, strong character, and high ideals. The recipients are positive role models and leaders who will leave their organization stronger than when they took office.

The Fraternity Chapter President of the Year led his chapter through COVID-19 and the return “normal”. He believes the fraternity is more than a social club, and is committed to getting back to the roots of where the fraternity started. In order to that, he is holding brothers accountable, making himself available whenever someone needs him, and preparing the chapter to be even stronger in the future. He is also committed to building relationships with other chapter presidents and providing a sense of community for all members of FSL. Congratulations to the Fraternity Chapter President of the Year:
Kirby Antonen, Phi Gamma Delta

The Sorority Chapter President of the Year also led her chapter through the transition of COVID-19 restrictions, back to life on campus. She has worked hard to build a stronger sisterhood within her chapter, as well as a stronger sense of community among Panhellenic chapters. She always shows up when she’s needed, and is ready to work with a smile on her face. This president stepped into her role as a sophomore and immediately excelled. Her nominator says, “She is so caring and puts this chapter before so much of her own things.” Congratulations to the Sorority Chapter President of the Year:
Sarah Ferroggiaro, Chi Omega

Fraternity Man of the Year

This recipient is recognized for his outstanding and continued service to the FSL community; strong academics; significant campus and community participation; strong personal character; and a positive role model. This year’s recipient not only served as President of his chapter, but also served as Council President. Often, he was the sole representative of our multicultural fraternities and sororities, but always represented our community with pride. In February, he represented the Multicultural Greek Council at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values in Anaheim. In addition to his two presidential roles, he is a leader across campus. He was featured representing FSL and his fraternity on The College Tour: University of Oregon on YouTube! Our community has been fortunate to have this man representing us. Congratulations to our Fraternity Man of the Year:
Jonah Misner, Sigma Lambda Beta

The Alysa Kezerian Sorority Woman of the Year

The Alysia Kezerian Sorority Woman of the Year Award was first awarded in the 2016-2017 academic year, following a rock climbing accident where Alysia Kezerian was hiking in Smith Rock State Park. Alysia fell 10 feet then subsequently tumbled 40 feet down the side of a mountain while hiking with a fellow Pi Beta Phi Sorority sister. Unfortunately, rescue teams took nearly 6 hours to rescue Alysia due to their location and the rugged terrain. Once she finally made it to the hospital, several tests were conducted, and it was discovered that the fall would result in paralysis from the waist down. Perhaps most remarkable about this story is Alysia’s unwavering spirit. While she was no longer able to serve as chapter president due to her rehabilitation, Alysia moved back into the Pi Beta Phi chapter house and remained an active member until graduation. Her passion for UO was apparent as she was often seen giving campus tours and never letting her injuries get into her way. Like a true leader, Alysia was resilient, determined and incredibly passionate. Alysia had such a profound impact on many at the University of Oregon, and especially within our community. The Sorority Woman of the Year Award recognizes an individual for their outstanding and continued service to the FSL community; strong academics; significant campus and community participation; strong personal character; and a positive role model. This year’s recipient is serving as her chapter’s first Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Her commitment to educating her chapter sisters has brought a new position to the forefront and is now a significant part of their member education. She has also raised over $5000 for her chapter’s philanthropy, all completely virtual. She serves as the sole student representative on UO’s Board of Trustees, and also serves as a TA in Biology. She’s currently training to become a full-time F45 trainer at the Student Recreation Center, in addition to everything else she does. Her chapter president says, “She is the most incredible woman I have ever met. She goes above and beyond, and represents the Greek community with integrity, passion, ambition, and empathy. I am lucky to be a sister to her, and to have her as a sister to me.” Congratulations to the Alysia Kezerian Sorority Woman of the Year:
Julia Lo, Delta Gamma

Chapters of the Year

The fraternity and sorority receiving these awards have exhibited outstanding achievements academically, philanthropically, and socially. They have gone above and beyond the minimum standards and have excelled in an array of areas throughout the FSL community. For the first time this year, this award was determined objectively through the Standards of Excellence program. These chapters received the highest score for their council. While many of the requirements were made optional this year due to COVID, these chapters still included them in their programming and did an outstanding job.

With a score of 126% , this fraternity has excelled in a number of ways. Their recruitment committee has is driven to recruit men who match the values of the fraternity. Academically, the chapter instituted a new plan that has seen their GPA increase dramatically over the course of the year. They have built a chapter education program that isn’t just about fulfilling requirements, but actually providing relevant material to build better men. They educate both current and new members on the Five Core Values of the fraternity, and provide an environment where those always come first. For a chapter who has only been back on campus for three years, they are blazing a new trail and raising the standard. Congratulations to our Fraternity of the Year:
Beta Theta Pi

The Sorority of the Year received an overall score of 137%. They determined as a chapter that academics needed to take a higher priority, and built a new program that provided amazing results. Members are focused on academics and the chapter has provided the resources to support them. Another area where the chapter has seen tremendous growth is in their support of their philanthropy, domestic violence. They raised nearly $7000 for various projects in the community. This chapter is committed to leadership on campus, and providing a rewarding experience for members. Congratulations to our Sorority of the Year:
Alpha Chi Omega
