Standards of Excellence Accreditation Process

Standards of Excellence

The Chapter Standards of Excellence program is designed to support the University of Oregon Fraternity & Sorority Life community as a whole, as well as each individual chapter, in operating at the highest and most effective level possible. This program also aims to ensure that members have a meaningful and positive chapter experience.

Standards of Excellence provides a structured assessment of the minimum expectations chapters should meet in order to remain strong, involved, and successful members of both the University of Oregon fraternity and sorority community and their (inter)national organizations. Through this process, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is better able to identify areas where chapters are excelling and where additional support or resources may be helpful. This current iteration is for our Interfraternal Council (IFC) and our Panhellenic Council (PHC).

Chapters are evaluated across four core areas: Membership Development, Chapter Management, External Relations, and Policy Compliance. Performance in these areas not only guides the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to more accurately target and provide assistance to individual chapters where they may have fallen short of the recognition standards but also serves as the foundation for the Fraternity & Sorority Life awards presented during spring term. Awards, including Chapter of the Year, are determined based on Standards of Excellence scores. The chapter with the highest overall score will host the Chapter of the Year trophy for the academic year and have its name engraved on a plaque displayed in the FSL Office.

In addition, the University recognizes that the achievements of fraternities and sororities can often go unnoticed. The Standards of Excellence program serves as an important tool for publicly recognizing high-performing chapters and celebrating their accomplishments

Chapters are encouraged to strive for excellence by earning 100% of the available points in each section and by continuously working to strengthen their chapter operations and member experience. The Standards of Excellence submission is due March 1, 2026, and the form can be accessed through Engage.
