Sabbatical
If you are proposing to take a sabbatical in the 2025-26 AY, please read the following information carefully. Your application is due to your Department Head no later than November 15.
Sabbatical Packet
Please arrange the sabbatical packet in a single PDF file with the following documents in this order:
- Sabbatical Application with faculty member signature:
- Sabbatical Statement.
- A statement that includes a description of the applicant’s plans for the proposed sabbatical leave period and the purpose of the proposed leave, which may include research, writing, advanced study, travel undertaken for observation, and study of conditions in our own or in other countries affecting your field or related scholarly or professional activities. The statement should also include a description of (a) current teaching, (b) scholarship, research, and creative activity, (c) service, and (d) other professionally relevant activities.
- At the end of the statement, outline details of how your teaching, service, and other activities will be managed during your leave. This should include coverage plans for your service and committee assignments (discuss with your committee chair if needed), student commitments such as thesis or dissertation supervision, and teaching responsibilities. If applicable, provide suggestions for potential interim replacements for your teaching or explain how your courses will be rescheduled to another term or year..

- Copy of previous Sabbatical Report (If you have previously been on sabbatical)
Eligibility for Sabbatical
Both tenure-track faculty (TTF) and career faculty appointed at .5 FTE or more with the requisite rank, and duration of service may be considered for a sabbatical leave, provided that they first demonstrate they have satisfied all eligibility requirements. See Article 33 of the UA CBA and UO policy for details.

At the end of the sabbatical leave, faculty must submit a report of accomplishment and benefits resulting from the leave.
Sabbatical reports are due at the end of the term following the faculty member’s return.
Send your report to the following: Dean Sabrina Madison-Cannon, Associate Dean Steve Vacchi, your department head(s), Vice Provost for Academic Affairs (vpaa@uoregon.edu), and Tiffany Benefiel (SOMD Dean’s Office).
Upon completion of the sabbatical leave, faculty are required to return to the university for at least one year of service.
