ART, GAMES, AND TECH DISCUSSION

This week’s assignment is very interesting to me because I am a kind of person who really likes technology stuff. Jane McGonigal claimed a really interesting point which was video games would save the real world in the future. When she found epic wins could be used into real world, she connected the online world and the real world successfully. I agree that she had several strong points like people would have better performance when they felt be trusted and enjoyed, but I still feel that use these theory to conclude video games could save real world was a little bit farfetched. People could do whatever they want and whatever they like in online video because there wouldn’t have any punishments besides lose the game. However, in the real world, people should have always considered consequences and effects on other people when they make decisions. But overall, I still think Jane did really good job to find this kind of connection even though it is unrealistic right now, it doesn’t mean it could happen someday in the very future.

Reflection

The most interesting thing I learned in this unit was about the history of computer graphics and technology. Like I discussed in my post, I think most people in our generation don’t have change to see the changings or developments in technology. We enjoy the high-tech thing, but we don’t know how long it took to make it happen. It is also very interesting to watch the lecture that Jane McGonigal gave about how gamers can save the real world in the future. I totally agree with her when she analyzed the reasons that could make epic wins possible in online worlds. McGonigal said people feel they are being trusted, they enjoy the sense of accomplishment when they achieve the mission, and they are keen on positive feedbacks every time they achieve next level (McGonigal, TED TALK). However, in my opinion, it would really take some time to make this happen.

Just like nobody in one hundred years ago would believe there are things called Apple watch, Google glass, Amazon Drone, etc. This world changes very fast because human beings are very smart. I am very thankful that I can enjoy this world in this generation. Saying back to the save world using video games, I think it is very possible, but it just takes time. We can figure out the greatest way to make our world better in the future for sure.

Future Goals

This is one of the most interesting units I take this course, and I really enjoy it. The assignments are also interesting because nobody could live without technology right now. I am taking this course online right now and doing my assignments on my computer. It is so amazing, isn’t it? Like I said, I am really interested in the history of computer graphics, so I plan to do some research on that, and maybe see some shows or videos created in that period of time and make a comparison. I also think it would be nice to do some remix using before and now things. My idea comes from one of my other assignments about remixing culture; see “Week 9 Discussion”. Like many movies are recreated into 3D version resent years, I think I can do similar things with my favorite shows or videos.
