Assistant Professor in Digital History – Sciences Po, Paris

Status: tenure-track FNSP Assistant Professor (private sector)

Profile: The position is open to applicants fully trained in history who are capable of developing a research and teaching program in digital history. It involves both a familiarity with the methods, tools and data at the basis of computerized operations, and an ability to use them in order to develop historical research, understood in the classical and fundamental meaning of the term, covering the 19th-20th centuries.

DUTIES
Research
Candidates must demonstrate their command of techniques used in the digital humanities. They will be evaluated on the quality of their own research projects and the latter’s alignment with the CHSP’s thematic areas of focus. Consideration will also be given to their ability to work collectively in their training of masters and PhD students who may rely on these methods, and to their participation in team research projects developed within the CHSP. The selected candidate will specifically be tasked with coordinating the CHSP’s Corpus, archives, campus research cluster.

Teaching
In addition to courses in methodology, the selected candidate will teach ones in his/her field of historical research. Courses will be taught at the three levels of education offered at Sciences Po in Paris, and at the undergraduate level at the regional campuses. The recruited Assistant Professor (AP) will be able to partner with any of the other schools interested in introducing a historical perspective to the understanding of their subjects, and in benefiting from the added value of the historian’s savoir-faire in source criticism with regard to the digital humanities and big data. The AP will also be expected to teach courses at the School of Management and Innovation (EMI) and to lead a history masters-level seminar.

Annual teaching duties are 128 master class-equivalent (CM) hours that can be divided into three 24-hour master classes and 56 CM hours of complementary pedagogical services. During their first three tenure-track years, Assistant Professors’ annual duty is reduced to 88 CM hours

Assistant Professor in Digital History and Native North America – Oklahoma State University

The Oklahoma State University Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in digital history with a specialization in the indigenous peoples of North America to begin in August 2018. The successful candidate will have a completed PhD, teaching experience, and a strong record of research productivity.

The position will enhance departmental strengths in public history and Native North America as well as a university-wide digital humanities initiative. The position includes graduate advisement, arranging and supervising student internships, fostering community engagement, and providing seminars and training on digital humanities tools and methods. The teaching load is 2 courses per semester.

Duties also include innovative and sustained peer-reviewed research and service to the department, college, and university. Conference travel funding and research support is available.

Candidates will be expected to support the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods; and demonstrate a commitment to engaging communities underrepresented in the academy.

College of Marin is looking for Full-time Faculty who:

Essential Functions:

  • Provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction in Digital Journalism and Mass Communication using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter;
  • Serve as Faculty Advisor for Converged Journalism and Media Arts
  • Supervise the student-published news through the Department of Communication’s media portal (formerly the campus newspaper – “The Echo Times”)
  • Prepare and evaluate all class assignments and examinations;
  • Advise, assist and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes;
  • Participate in program activities including curriculum development, evaluation and decision-making, program planning, new teaching and learning methods, and resource development;
  • Contribute to development of program policies and procedures;
  • Participate in college professional or shared governance committees and in departmental activities such as maintaining course outlines, program review, student learning outcomes assessment, other curricular development, etc.
  • Maintain and post office hours;
  • Maintain and submit accurate student records in a timely manner as required;

Mass Communication:

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Assistant Professor of Mass Communications – Electronic Media Emphasis – Colorado State University

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mass Communications Department and Center for New Media provides a major in which technological innovation is grounded in a traditional humanities and social sciences curriculum.  The department has over 200 majors, with seven full-time faculty and a full-time media manager.  Department curriculum focuses on mass media and its related disciplines which include advertising, broadcasting, journalism, public relations, and new media technology. The department has tree media laboratories that include the TODAY online and print newspaper, KTSC-FM, an 8,000 watt radio station, known as REV 89, and a collaborative relationship with KTSC/RMPBS television.  Department faculty members prioritize technology in the department both for teaching as well as media labs.  The major provides a marketable and professionally credible program, a student-centered experience for advising and learning, an applied learning environment with cutting-edge technology used in the professions, and a 40-year tradition of excellence.

This is a tenure track position that requires teaching courses related to electronic media, including web design, digital media production, interactive media and video post-production.  The position also includes media lab supervision for students producing audio/video content for the TODAY, the print and online media lab in the Mass Communications department.  

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant Professor- Media Studies – Queens College – CUNY

The Department of Media Studies at Queens College, City University of New York invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, with a specialization in Television, Video and Film production, to join their Media Arts program, beginning August, 2018. The successful appointee will teach studio and field film and television production as well as related Media Arts courses within the Media Studies Department’s B.A. and M.A. programs. Responsibilities include teaching, research and mentoring undergraduate students in area(s) of expertise, service including responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions, and contribution to the overall mission of the Department of Media Studies.
