Learning Objectives:

This term, I hope to become more comfortable with the idea of academic research. The idea of starting a graduate level research project feels very daunting, and intimidating. Although I have done various research assignments in the past, I feel as though there is a greater demand for higher quality work within graduate programs than there is within undergraduate programs. I want to see what I am capable of doing, and to also challenge myself to create a higher level of quality in my work.

I am also interested in forming plausible ideas for research topics, as well as some basic ideas for my terminal project. Currently, I have two general ideas of what I would like to research. However, both of those ideas are rather lofty and nebulous. I would like to scale down my general interest into something more tangible for a research project, as well as something that I feel would benefit the arts community.

Along with finding comfort in my own work, and scaling down my ideas, I really hope to gain a better understanding of APA formatting. During my undergrad, I used Chicago formatting for my research papers in art history. APA is a new to me, and I would like to become more familiar with the proper citation methods. I’ve already purchased the APA Handbook, 6th Edition in hopes that it will become my most used tool this term, and for the rest of my future research assignments.
