Learning Objectives: Within the realm of our cultural society, art carries a significant and influential weight. It is intrinsic to the operation of personal, as well as group expression, yet continuously, we hear of art programs being cut out of our communities. For the duration of this course, I am interesting in learning about the factors in our own societies, schools, and cultures that continue to lead to such program cuts. If we, as a collective, are able to identify where and why these factors exist, perhaps we can shift this degrading trend to re-implement art back into our communities and societies. Furthermore, I would like to be introduced to new critical ways of thinking about how and why art exists, as well as what paradigms are being shifted to represent today’s art. Specifically, how does media (social and otherwise) impact our appreciation on art? Does the broad access to technology and endless forms of accessible research help, or hinder our art programs?
